Marriott Regents Park

We had a very good time in London. The Marriott is a very short walk from the Swiss Cottage underground station, with easy access to most of the lines to most of the sights in London. The staff was very nice and helpful. Not used to being charged for Internet in the states anymore, so that was a bit different. The food prices are a bit high, but their fish and chips was huge. The buffet breakfast was also expensive, but could carry you most of the day. We only ate at the hotel 3 times in the week we were there, mostly ate in pubs. The cleaning service was a little inconsistent, the room was always clean but it seemed sometimes they took our bath towels and didn't give us new ones.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Swiss Cottage is named for a building that currently houses a pub a 5 minute walk from the Marriott. Their bangers and mash was quite good, and my son liked their fish and chips. Lower price than the Marriott.

NO RUNNING WATER? Third world hotel

Left my roomat 5pm for a meeting. Came back just after 12:30am only to find note slid under door to let guests know water going off at 1pm. I jumped into shower, am almost finished, covered in shampoo & soap and at 12:50am water goes off. No hot, no cold water, NOTHING. Called downstairs numerous times, only to be told they cannot turn it back on. After 20 minutes someone brings up 2 saucepans of water from the kitchen. Is this a joke? Candid camera? I again called down numerous times trying to speak directly with manager. When he finally decides to call me back, after much arguing I inform him that he needs to unlock pool so I can jump in and rinse off. When I complain about treatment, he informs me that NEXT time I stay they will upgrade my room. NEXT TIME? I'm never staying there again. Staff & management are totally inept. Why wasn't I given more notice of water turn off, and more importantly WHY WAS IT TURNED OFF BEFORE the notified time. DON"T STAY HERE

Perfect to come back to after sight seeing

The room was nice. I hear it's large for Europe. It was always a perfect temperature, and the bed was soft. After a long day of sight seeing, it was amazing to return to each night. This hotel really shines in the public area though. The restaurant had great food overall. We were comparing many of the local restaurants to it. Loved the Indian food and the bar. Plus their free internet was actually really fast.

Bring a business card from the hotel with you. There are multiple King Henry's roads apparently, but only one in Regents Park. I didn't remember the Regent's Park part, but I had thought ahead to bring a business card from the front desk just in case. It worked out well, as when I was using a cab, I would just hand them the card. However, there's an underground stop within a few minutes walk of the hotel.

Well located accommodation

A great place to stay away from central London crowds but still close to transport services. Hotel going through 40 year external refurbishment which is a positive as was looking tired. Remains our preferred hotel to stay at in London

Marriott Regents Park

Two things I did not like. Internet in the room was VERY expensive - did not use it at all (used the free service in the lobby). And, the water did not flow out of the bathroom sink - very slowly.

London Weekend

Everything was on par with what I expect from a Marriott hotel. The rooms were nice and the bathroom was excellent. The exterior of the building was a little old and ion need of updating but it didn't detract from the overall experience. The location was excellent. We were close to enough to central London to sight see but for enough away to experience places away from the tourist areas. It was also close to a train station so we were able to experience riding the undergound. The hotel staff was great. They took the time to answer any and all questions. The ability to exchange currency onsite was helpful. My only complaint is breakfast should be included with the room rate.

Our second stay in this hotel.

A little outside the center of London, but not a disadvantage because of convenience to Swiss Cottage Tube Station, safe neighborhood, and budget friendly restuarants within walking distance (Subway, KFC, McD's). We traveled with our adult daughter and were able to share a room, many other London hotels will not allow three in a room. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Staff was very helpful, arranging an early morning cab, booking a walking tour, etc. Was a great home base for our London area sightseeing. Would certainly stay here on our next London visit.

Many budget friendly places to eat within walking distance. Few minutes walk to tube station will get you anywhere in the London, including train stations if you're venturing a little further.

Below Average from Marriott

We checked into the hotel and were given a non-smoking room but upon entering the room it clearly smelled of smoke and there was an ashtray on an end table. The windows were wide open even though it was a cold, rainy day. It clearly wasn't helping with the stench. Back down to the lobby only to have the staff argue with us that the room was a non-smoking room and therefore it couldn't possibly smell of smoke. After several minutes continuously explaining the problem, they finally gave us another room. Never have we experienced hotel staff arguing with their clients. The sofa bed that our children slept on had thin sheets and a blanket that had seen better days. When the blanket has holes and is pilled, it is time to invest in new linens. Once the sofa bed was pulled out, the room became quite cramped. Not a great design. The queen size bed also had sheets that were past their prime and the mattress was like sleeping on a board. Clearly a very uncomfortable bed. The bathroom was quite large and extremely nice given the state of the rest of the room. We ordered room service late one evening and it arrived before the quoted time. It was still hot and quite delicious. We also ate in the hotel's brasserie one evening as recommended upon check-in. Service was extremely slow and our waitress kept disappearing for long periods of time. The table next to us had several of the staff fawning over them so there obviously was a problem before we arrived. Given the long wait to order and receive drinks and food, it did prove to be a decent, average meal...or maybe we were just exhausted from our long day of sightseeing. Overall we were not impressed with this Marriott property. During our week long trip, this was the third Marriott property and the most expensive. The other properties all had nice linens, blankets and feather beds, 2 queen size beds in the room, no sofa bed, larger rooms with room to move around.
