Great location

We spent almost a week in London and the hotel's location was just perfect for sightseeing. The rooms are on the small side, but you cannot expect much for this price. The staff was really friendly and helpful.

Not the Best House

My traveling companion and I stayed at the London House twice during our trip. The rooms were tiny (as they are in England), the beds not very comfortable, the "breakfast" okay as long as we went continental and not for the full English that had been sitting in the warming pans. After our first night, the pull on the Roman shade broke, and we informed the desk. When we returned, it had been fixed, but we didn't discover until the next morning that the window had been left wide open. We were on the first floor (second in the U.S.), and there was an extremely narrow balcony that would have made it easy for someone to get in. As we planned to travel outside London for 3 days, then return to the London House, we asked at check-in if we could leave our large bags with them while we were gone. We were told we could only leave one bag. That was fine, but when we checked out, the staff at the desk was different and no one knew anything about being allowed to leave a bag. We were able to leave it, but had to sign a form relieving them of any responsibility if the bag was stolen while we were gone. It wasn't, fortunately. My companion's wallet was stolen (not at London House), and her credit card company sent a replacement. With tracking information, she was able to determine that it had been delivered to London House, but the staff was unable to find a trace of it. She gave them the name of the person who had signed for it, and they had to call her at home to find out what she had done with it. She had indeed received it, but had not bothered to tell anyone else.

Clean, Comfortable, and Reasonable

We had two double rooms at the London House Hotel (located in the Nottinghill/Bayswater neighborhood) that we found to be very convenient. It is located across from a park/garden in the middle of a residential street and was very quiet with very little street noise. The rooms appeared recently remodeled and were clean, comfortable and quiet. Noises from the street and adjacent rooms were minimal. The queen-size bed was comfortable and provided a restful sleep. The size of the room is typically European (small, but manageable). The bathroom had a functional and clean enclosed shower. A nice bonus was a small refrigerator in each room which was great for left-over foods and cold drinks. And there was a hot pot with coffee and tea in each room; and each room had a safe. The hotel also had a breakfast for 7euros, but there are a number of restaurants and fast food places (McDonalds, Burger King, etc) within a five minute walk. The room cost was $120./night (end of March 2014). Location: The nearby Tube stations were Bayswater (Circle & Direct Lines) and Queensway (Central Line) which is a 5-10 minute walk. Incidentally, it is a easy scenic 1hr ride from Heathrow by Underground (via Picadilly Line and transfers) if you don't have a lot of luggage. (The Tube costs considerably less than the $30+/person Heathrow Express train.) One block around the corner from the hotel is a large shopping center which includes a large Marks & Spencer grocery/department store (ideal for snacks, food, and drinks....since there's a refrigerator in the rooms). The Queensway/Bayswater neighborhood is a five-ten minute walk where there are many fast food restaurants, sit down restaurants, shops, grocery stores, bank atms, etc. The Portobello Street Market in Nottinghill is walkable....about thirty minutes. Most of the other London sites are easily accessible via the Underground. The #390 bus also serves the Bayswater Road and Queensway station (about a ten min walk from the hotel). Staff: Very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Negative: I had issues with the electrical outlets: none of my converters were effective in charging electronic devices (camera batteries, ipads, etc.)... and the hotel did not have any to loan. There was only one outlet that worked: it is in the bathroom in the light fixture above the sink and mirror....designed for electric shavers (it is partially hidden in the light fixture....you have to slide the cover open). We have been to London a number of times but have never stayed at the same hotel twice. We usually book at whichever hotel we can get a good deal at......but we would consider the London House Hotel again. Hope this helps.

Great location, clean modern lobby and room.

I liked the hotel's Bayswater location, close to two tube stations and half a block from Queensway and one black from Westbourne Grove, both with dozens of restaurants and stores, yet the hotel was on a quiet street across from a park. We could see the top of Whiteleys parking ramp from our window--Whiteleys is a three story urban mall. I used the internet cafe there--the hotel's WiFi was apparently working but I couldn't connect to my server (though when we used a friend's laptop, we had no problem, and my netbook worked at Heathrow). The room was small, as was the bathroom, but clean and modern with LED lights. A chair or another shelf in the room would have been useful--there was room for both under the wall TV. The closet (with a safe) was big enough. The AC worked fine on unexpectedly hot London days,. The only negative I had was the coverlets on the beds--so slippery they slid off the beds and so did any small items placed on them. Breakfasts were not included in the room price but it was convenient for us to eat there, and there were ample selections of cereals and rolls, cheese, cold cuts, yogurt. Packets of instant oatmeal would be a welcome addition as there was hot water available for tea that could be used. Also some fresh fruit (bananas? oranges?) would be nice; the only fruit was canned fruit cocktail. We had taken the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station, and with one rolling bag and backpacks we walked from there to the hotel.

Great location for the price. Very clean.

The bathroom and beds were incredibly small. My husband and I are not big people, but the bathroom was too small for any comfort. Beds were saggy and small.

Would Not Stay Again

After any number of trips to Europe in general and London specifically, I have to say this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed. We arrived on May31, 2012 and stayed until June 4, 2012. First, when checking in I was told I owed them the credit card fee of 3% charged by my credit card company. When I complained they said it was in the fine print in my reservation. Upon going to my room I found I had no air conditioning. They sent someone to fix it but was unsuccessful. I was told they were getting an outside company and it would be fixed shortly. Bottom line is that the enitre third floor had no air for the four days I was there. They did offer to move me to another room after two days but we declined. Also, they told me I was the only one complaining but while riding up on the elevator, I found this was a blatant lie. Also, I have never styed in a room that had no hand towel, no face towels and no kleenex in the bathroom. The hotel was not that clean and "continental Breakfast" was inedible.

Highly Recommended

This hotel is in a great location! Close to two undergrounds. The small doubles are small rooms but comfortable for a 3/4 day visit as you will spend most of your time out and about sight seeing. If I was going back to London I would stay here again definitely!

Weekend stop in London

We checked in late and got the ground floor room. It was quite loud as the stairs to go for breakfast, main entrance and the luggage room was just outside! We were very tired and slept soundly, but some people may have a problem. Otherwise everything was fine, handy location and clean - very small though. I would stay again.
