a bit expensive for what it is

Location is right on the Central Line, bed comfy, staff very nice. But room stuffy, breakfast bland, two maintenance issues, only one of which was resolved. Would not go back.

Will stay here again!

Excellent. Great location, very nice staff, good breakfast. This is my new go-to London hotel. The only small criticism I have is a bit of mold around the tiles in the shower. Otherwise, a flawless visit.

Perfect for an overnight in London

It was great, ignore the bad reviews, if you request a non smoking room then all is good. The room is "small" but that is London I don't know what people expect. The bathroom was nice and bigger than I expected. The hotel is great with it's facilities, 24hour room service and bar, breakfast included, the staff are really friendly and helpful. Actually better than I expected. Only *slight* downside, was we had to checkout by 12, but the cleaner knocked on the door at 9am then again at 9:30am. Slightly annoying, but to counter that the reception and bar staff where great.

Terrible!!! Spend your money elsewhere. This place is shocking

Terrible hotel and staff. I stayed for one night - I can handle hotels being tired, lifts being small, things being old fashioned - no problem there, that sometimes adds to the charm. However - there is NO excuse for being put in a shabby, dirty, sloping room which stank of cigarettes, had a toilet seat that wasn't fitted properly to the loo so slid off when you sat on it, had p+bic hairs around it, had a filthy bathroom and sink and had a window facing the main road that didn't shut. And when I say it didn't shut, I don't mean it didn't close properly, I mean it didn't close at all!! The arm was missing from it meaning it was crashing open all night and the hotel is on a main road. The alarm clock was set at the wrong time, the room and bathroom were dirty, tired, tiny and sloping, smelly, old fashioned, appliances didn't work, no kettle or coffee making facilities..... I complained to the desk in the morning (I had been at a work and was not moving rooms at 2am) and was greeted by a young chap rolling his eyes at me. I was then told by I guess the 'senior' member of staff that I 'should have requested a no smoking room' when booking and that the hotel was good value for money at £80 a night and therefore I had no complaint. She was rude and couldn't careless. I asked to speak to the general manager who was not available - they emailed me today saying, and I quote 'I understand from my Duty Manager on check out you had concerns about your room. We have charged your card for the full amount of accommodation according to the agreement in your confirmation. If you want to discuss this further, let me know' A complete disregard of any of the issues with the hotel and no acknowledgement of fault. I wasn't even after a full refund - a gesture of goodwill of £10 and an apology would have sufficed. I defiantly wont be recommending this hotel to colleagues or clients in the future. All in all, a terrible experience, the best thing about it is the proximity of the tube station meaning a quick get away!!

50th disappointment

Room allocated extremely poor if you have already booked ensure you are not given room 335 It is tiny, dark, smelly and mould growing on righthand side of bed. Fortunately they changed our room without hesitation and it was a lot better although the 3rd star allocated for having net curtains should be removed as they were ill fitting and dirty grey colour so unable to see through them. This is not a 3* hotel and not good value for money. No tea and coffee making facilites. I did not stay long enough to experience the hospitality the reviews i read mentioned.

A Solid Budget Option

My wife and I had a very nice stay of 8 nights at the London Elizabeth in September. This is an aging property, without particular frills, but it's a very good budget choice (for London prices anyway). The hotel is around the corner from the Lancaster Gate tube stop and an easy walk to Paddington Station. The street it's on is busy and the extremely busy road along the top of Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens is just around the corner, so do yourself a favor as we did and request a room in the back. The walls are a bit thin regardless, but we never had any particular problem with sound. Our room was small, but not tiny. Everything was clean, although some of the decor was a bit worn. The room had a safe, a trouser press, a television (only 4 channels, but we didn't vacation in London to watch TV), and plentiful hot water (if anything the pressure was too high) at all times of day. The bathroom was very clean, and my only issue was with the shower, which was high and a bit difficult to clamber into, and then so slim that it was difficult to stay out of the shower curtain while showering. The continental breakfast was adequate: four kinds of pastry, cereals, two juices, toast, tea, coffee, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and mixed cut fruit. By the end of eight days, a little variation would have been welcome, as would a bit of cheese, but everything was always fresh and service was good. A full breakfast was available for 6 pounds more. We didn't eat in the restaurant otherwise. We got good help with restaurant recommendations from the concierge, and there are plenty of options in the neighborhood, particularly if you like Middle Eastern and Asian food. Several decent pubs were an easy walk away. Don't be mistaken: this isn't the Ritz, but they took good care of us and we never had an issue in eight days that required remediation. This is a solid budget option in a good location in a city of expensive hotels. I would stay again.

Just the basics here

Let's just call it ok. The hotel is old - really old, which is common in London. That said, my room was fine but the double beds are just two singles pushed together. The elevator fits one person and runs slow enough that taking the stairs is faster. The carpeting in the rooms needs to be replaced but generally the place is pretty clean, despite the worn look. My colleague stayed in a double room with two beds but his room was smaller and he said the beds were awful. End of the day, I wouldn't stay here again. The location is okay, but there are lots of other good location places to chose from.
