"good location, poor room, mediocre staff"

When I arrived at the hotel I was greeted by a surly man, who never welcomed me or smiled my whole trip. Most of the staff were rather cold and unwelcoming. The room was tiny, with barely enough space to get around the bed. The traffic noise from the window was loud, as were the people in the next room (who were often right outside my window, due to a shared balcony). The shower was functional, but small and, due to an inward folding door, I had to get into it when it was cold and wait for it to get hot. The carpets, tiles etc. were in a general state of disrepair. Next time I will book at the Holiday Inn, which is a block away.

Very nice stay!

We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay here. The location was great in a nice area of Kensington- less than 10 minutes from the Natural History Museum and Science museum. Also close to a tube station and an open bus tour route so great for tourists! Room was a bit small but absolutely fine for us. Really enjoyed our stay here :)

location good, average room

Location is great, however room as small (clean) and very limited amenities in the room. Make sure to ask for a room not facing the road, as the window sealing is poor. Not for a family.

Great for few days stay

Room was clean and warm, not luxury but perfect for somewhere to put your head down and beside the underground - minutes away from everything :) staff could be friendlier and safe was out of order but would recommend and would stay again

Small Rooms

I stayed in a room with my mother and my grandmother, and it had three beds, but the room still felt very stuffy and there wasn't enough room to move around freely. The bathroom didn't have an outlet, the showers were old, and although the rustic feeling was kind of cool, it didn't fit all my needs. Beds were comfortable, and it is at a good location. 2 minutes away from the gloucester road tube and bus station. good location also in terms of restaurants. I will recommend this hotel if you don't plan to spend too much time actually in it. (:

Good hotel

We got a massive discount for a double deluxe room which was a very good value for money. Although it is overpriced if you pay the full amount. The room is basic, but comfortable and clean. The walls are very thin and it can be very noisy. Could use some refurbishment to remove the water stains from the ceiling and unclog the sink. Great location with very good transportation connections.

Nothing as promised except the price

Advertised free wi-fi; just didn't tell you it is only available in the lobby. Advertised a bar and restaurant; was told it was under renovation, but I could find no location for either one within the hotel so I do not think they have one at all. Allowed me to select a smoking room, again not true. I had many other choices and would have choose differently if I knew it was false advertising.

Just the job!

For a one night stay in the thick of it this was excellent value. Rooms are rather on the small side but who cares if all it will be used for is sleeping. Well equipped, tea & coffee, little television, comfy bed and shower that worked. perfect position for museums and knightsbridge and only 200 yds from the underground. Didn't try breakfast so can't comment on that but otherwise staff genial and helpful. Some noise from the busy Cromwell Road but not enough to be troublesome.

Decent Room, Good Location

I booked this hotel after reading the reviews here on this site. I find that online user reviews are always the best way to find out what a hotel is really like. I was staying in London for a week and I knew I wanted to stay relatively close to attractions and inside the city. I finally picked this hotel and I do not regret it. I would stay there again, but there were some things which I think travelers should know before booking this hotel. The room was, by American standards, small. There was no chair and barely enough room to walk around the bed. The room had a coffee maker, tea kettle and sweetener and cream. It had a small private bath and a large armoire. There was a large bay window in the room looking out over Cromwell Rd. During the morning rush hour, the traffic noise could get fairly loud. The hallways were small by American standards and I usually took the step up to the second floor instead of waiting for the elevators. The hotel had a group of Czechs who brought a large plastic bin which they sat outside of my room. I didn't appreciate that. I would have thought that the hotel could have found a better place for other guests to leave such belongings. One night, I arrived back at the hotel at 2am. After I entered the lobby, I was met by two italian couples. They did not have rooms although the Italians showed me what appeared to be legitimate confirmation for lodging. After being yelled at in Italian for ten minutes and trying to explain to the Italians that I was only a guest being polite, kind and gentlemanly, I finally left the lobby and went to bed. The next morning, I saw the italian lady I saw the previous night and asked her if she got everything sorted out. She told me in her broken English, "Not really." I do not know if the hotel was overbooked or if the Italians had a bogus reservation. In my opinion, the hotel staff did little if anything to rectify the situation. In the hospitality industry, I think that is unacceptable under any circumstance. I was frustrated by the Italians. In hind sight, even though I was yelled at by the italians even after I explained I was only a hotel guest, I should have offered to walk around to the other hotels in the vicinity and explain their situation to the other hotel staffs to see if any of the other hotels could help these unfortunate italians. However, after being yelled at for ten minutes, I really didn't feel like it at the time. Wifi is available "only" in the hotel lobby. I was able to get on the network sporadically in my room on the second floor, however. I didn't try the hotel breakfast. There are plenty of option in the area for less money which I would suggest. It wasn't a perfect stay, but no hotel is perfect. I would stay there again.

needs and is doing an upgrade

nice location, helpful staff, clean, comfortable rooms; but at the price it needs the upgrade it is undertaking. Currently, wifi is in lounge only (which is poorly appointed), TV includes four or five channels with poor reception (no cable) and breakfast is disappointing. But the staff really is good, and clearly the hotel wants to be better. more than adequate for leisure traveler, not ready for business customers.
