Very good hotel, but a bit out the way

I booked the hotel for a two night stay for our 10-yr wedding anniversary. We are in our 30's. Cost £255 (via third party) incl breakfast. This was a very good price having spent a while researching costs and other hotels in London. I don't hotel much but I have high standards! So, the hotel is very good but not perfect (what is??, unless you hotel in Dubai), hence 4 stars. I rang up two days before and requested a free upgrade, if they had one. On checking in, they had already upgraded us to an Executive Suite, which impressed me. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was excellent - a massive comfy bed, large TV, large sofa, very clean.....We had a river view which overlooked the helipad. We enjoyed watching the choppers come in and fortunately you could barely hear them (there are two lots of double glazing separated themselves in-between two foot of space). The windows therefore didn't open but air conditioning worked fine. When we first got into our room, the only problem was that there were no bath robes so we had to wait ages before they got delivered and before then going to the Spa (they advise changing in your room first). The Spa is very good with romantic mood lighting! Not for the Singles I suggest! There's a large Jacuzzi type pool, various showers, steam room, sauna and one other. Note - once you check out, they charge you £15 to use the pool - we therefore didn't. Breakfast was good which included continental style and full English in the restaurant. Kind of the usual with this type of hotel. There was always plenty of space to sit and you can eat outside along the Thames if you want. The main problem with this hotel is the location but you can't blame the staff for that. It is 13 mins walk from Clapham Junction - and that was taking the direct side roads in-between social housing estates. From Clapham, the easiest way into central London is NOT via London Overground as the train always goes sooooooo slowly. It's easier to get one stop to Clapham North, then a short walk (2 mins) to the Tube station. This may sound a pain, and it is. But we got used to it although when you've been out all day, it's is not the best to come to. There is a free shuttle provided by Verta to Sloane Square AND Clapham Junction (people carrier) at various times during the day but is a limited service and is only during office hours and not in the evening. This was good when we checked out and caught it to Clapham. A taxi from Clapham Junction to Verta cost £5-£7. Also, the front of Verta looks out onto a small industrial estate with Grundon wheelie bins lined up. A very strange set-up!! But once you're inside the hotel, then it's nice. Staff were always helpful so overall, a very good stay. Well recommended.

Great hotel!

I only stayed for one night but the hotel was great: fast-check in by professional and very nice staff, fantastic room - large, clean, modern with a superb bathroom (tv over bath!) - and although I paid for a basic double, I ended up with a riverview room, which was also great! Although it's not a central London location, there are some nice restaurants around and Westminster is only a short taxi ride away.

Not the best location

The biggest problem is the hotel location. If you don't intend spending time in Battersea, or you don't have your own car, getting to public transport is going to be a bit of a walk. The closest bus stop is about a block and a half away (or more depending on which direction you're going) and the underground is a good 30 min walk away. To get to the city from here requires 3 trains and a bus ride. To get to the airport will require the same. If you plan on staying here, bring transport.

Buy a day pass for the underground because of the amount of traveling you're going to do.

Mature couple visit

The postal code does not validate the satnav location, so it took some time to find the hotel. Rather use local transport - Clapham Junction train station is nearest to the hotel. Upon arrival, the room smelled of smoke but we were too tired to complain. The next morning, the manager was very apologetic and upgraded us to a penthouse room, which was fantastic and spacious with the most beautiful views. The hotel has all the 5 star amenities and qualities any visitor would want. Breakfast satisfies all tastes, including hot buffet dishes, and Dinner at the Chinese Restaurant onsite is tops and recommendable. If you have time, go for long walks along the riverside.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

The hotel offers a shuttle service to and from airports. Rather use this service than rent a car as location is difficult to find and parking is expensive. Otherwise use public transport but make sure you know where the nearest stops are.

A Wonderful Experience!

I've stayed in 5* hotels before but this was exceptional. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the room was stunning and the under floor heating in the bathroom was a huge bonus, in fact the whole design was magnificent. The location right next to London Heliport was quite exciting and of course it had a lovely view over the Thames. There's no shops or restaurants nearby but you can either take the shuttle into Sloane Square or get the bus to Clapham Junction for shopping and restaurants on Lavendar Hill. When we returned to the hotel in the evening the curtains in the room had been drawn, the bed turned down and a tray of tea and cookies left by the bed. As for the breakfast buffet, it was huge, you couldn't wish for more and we'll definitely be returning!

Even if you're not staying in the hotel it's well worth a visit to eat there (you can sit in the Ambrosia and watch the helicopters come and go) and if you look around on the internet you will probably find a good deal for the room or discount vouchers for food!

Lovely hotel with laid back vibe

We had a very nice room with a view of the river. It was spotless and was well equipped and it had a very comfortable bed and pillows with nice linen. The staff were friendly and efficient. Clapham junction is about a 10-15 minute walk away but the position of the hotel on the riverside is great and more than makes up for any minor inconvenience in getting there.

Really enjoyable stay!

The hotel whilst a little difficult to find was well worth the effort. Friendly welcome from all the staff. We had a great stylish and very comfortable room. Made it easy to relax. Great bar serving good wine and cocktails. The food was good too! We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again.

Hotel Verta

Had a fantastic stay here. The staff were courteous (particularly the gentleman at the door). A little distance out of central London but would definitely stay here again. Only negative was that we were not told we had to book the shuttle service in advance, but the staff went out of their way to ensure we were able to utilise the service.
