Disgusting! Should be closed down!

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in and worse than anything I could have imagined. I had to fix the toilet seat, the towel holder was hanging off the wall, the shower tray was disgusting - chipped / broken / dirty and we even saw an insect that looked like an ant crawling up the side of it! One of the wall lights was half missing and there was a hole in the bathroom door. The old brown wallpaper was stained and dirty and had areas where pieces were peeling off. The furniture was old and battered and one of the drawers had a handle missing. The bed was hard, no springs and really uncomfortable and the base of it was filthy, covered in disgusting brown stains. The dirty brown carpet didn't reach the skirting boards and was really dusty and the frill at the top of the curtains was hanging off and was also thick with dust. The paint was peeling off the window sill - the terrible view was of some steps and the back of the building. There were cobwebs/dirt on the ceiling and walls. There was only one floor level double socket in the room so I had to move the kettle down on to the floor to boil it. The socket was loose and didn't feel particularly safe - The TV (which didn't work!) was plugged in to it and next to it a white plug with a red light - when I unplugged this to see what it was, I found it was a mouse and rat repeller!! Although the TV didn't work, they did have wi-fi so we watched TV on our laptop. I asked if they had another room available but the man on reception was rather rude and said 'no' they didn't (even though they were showing 'vacancies' on the window!) I asked for extra pillows as we only had one each and was told they didn't have any, they were all being cleaned!! (I very much doubted that!) I had to pay cash on arrival as apparently the card machine didn't work and when I asked if I could pay later as I didn't have it on me - he said I had half an hour and then I had to pay! I then had to go out to a cashpoint in the rain when we had only just arrived! The only saving grace was the fairly reasonable full English breakfast served by a very nice lady in a clean-ish but freezing cold dining room in the basement... All-in-all... DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! IT SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN!

Weekend in London

If you pay for less less is exactly what you will get. What I found the most unlikeable thing about this place is that the heat in the room did not work and when I brought it to the attention of the staff nothing was ever done. Thankful the temps were mild that weekend. The best thing about the place is that it was a short 10 minute walk to Paddington Station so taking the expresss train to and from Heathrow was effortless.

Run while you can....

Arrived late at night and soaked from the rain. The room was in the next building - the inside looked close to a horror movie set. Room had no closets and was almost as big as the bed. After some negotiating they managed to put me in a bigger but beyond basic room. There was a strange looking thing next to the closet which seemed like a mouse/insect trap. Bottom line - great for backpackers in their early 20s, anyone else beware! But at that price, I guess that is what London has to offer....

DISSAPOINTED.

I reached the hotel around 11AM-was given the room around 4PM-- No elevator- Had to drag the baggage up three floors-in a very narrow -curvye-stairway. bathroom supplies were sparingly supplied- one soap for 3-days. internet connection was interrupted constantly. I would never use it again, neither recommend it.

Getting what you pay for

The location is amazing, however the room is very basic, and the bed definitely could've been better. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast offered was basic, but good. If you're looking for extravagance, look elsewhere. However if you're looking for a safe no frills place with great location, this is the place for you. I would recommend if you stay here that you pack light, there are no elevators, and the stair cases have tight turns.

Above Average

The hotel is on 2 townhouses and I stayed in the pricier one. I had a very good double all to myself and paid full price. The bathroom was airplane-small but clean and the room seemed recently renovated. The mattresses were past their prime, though. The staff was courteous but make sure to arrive on time to breakfast, as I saw that the 9 a.m. limit is strictly, even overzealously, enforced. The breakfast was the traditional British stuff cooked in a pretty average sort of way, nothing too spectacular or memorable. In over 3 decades of travel I have stayed in many hotels in London, including 7 others in this area near Paddington, and this is one of the best I've seen in price/quality ratio. It's about 5-6 blocks from the station, but feasible to walk to if you don't carry a lot of luggage. (Or leave the extra bags at the Paddington Left Luggage depot, which is what I did). I don't know what the other, cheaper half of the hotel is like, but they have very low walk-in rates advertised at the desk, about half those you see in the main travel websites.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

The direct rail link to Heathrow is one of the best features of this otherwise dull area. It will save you an expensive cab ride or a cumbersome Tube journey.

The Hotel was basic, but very

The Hotel was basic, but very clean and comfortable and close to all the attractions and local tube to all destinations. Everything you need for a few nights stay, would go back and the staff were very friendly. The breakfast was yummy too.

Couldn't really fault it considering

Couldn't really fault it considering we paid only 100 for two nights for two of us. We walked everywhere all weekend, so good location! I was a bit 'oh no' after reading others' reviews after booking, but was pleasantly surprised. Parked the car right outside the hotel, which was brill. We didn't spend much time there, it was a weekend away for us and would happily go back there!!

After reading some of the critical

After reading some of the critical reviews I didn't expect much being a budget hotel but the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean, with nice clean sheets and towels. The full English breakfast was basic but filling. The location was good. A little noise from some occupants but nothing to complain about. I will certainly stay again - It's a budget hotel for a budget price - you get what you pay for.
