Avoid at all costs!
norbac Oct 9, 2009
Overall, this hotel is grossly over rated. The only good thing I can say about it is its proximity to the subway ... station--literally a block away. I had a terrible experience here as my video camera memory cards were stolen from my room and the staff refused to conduct an investigation! I even suggested to contact the police but they also refused. In all, ALL my trip memories were lost do to the negligence of this hotel's staff and they seemed to have cared less about it! So, if you're concerned about leaving your personal property in this hotel avoid it at all costs!

This hotel is in a great location, convenient to everything. It is a little old and showing some signs of age. Staff are ... friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely attentive. Decent restaurants, though the bar food is a bit pricey. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Hotel was well located in the High Street kensington area, short walk to tube and bus stop and shopping areas. Word to the ... wise: internet costs 20 pounds for 24 hours... THIS IS NOT A TYPO!! Rooms were quite small and service was average; beware of missed wake up calls; get the name of the person who assists you. The concierge will assist you in discount theater tickets.

Extremely well located near Kensington Palace and a three minute walk to the Underground. We were there as first time London ... vacationers and would definitely stay there again. Our only complaint was there there was no WIFI connection. There was an internet cable hook up in the room [for an extra fee], but we couldn't connect. But who wants to spend time on the internet while in London anyway!

Absolutely great location, around the corner from the Picadilly line of the tube, which goes to Heathrow and connects to ... everywhere in London. Very quiet area. Will surely go back to the Russell when we return to London. I recommend it without reservation.

Would definitely stay here again; minor issue - it took a while to find a family friendly restaurant nearby (but check out the fresh food market on the High St - great stuff)

First time London traveler
Bonnie Jun 25, 2009
We wanted to go to London 30 years ago on our honeymoon, but our budget wouldn't allow. As true 'empty-nesters' this summer, ... and a sizable tax refund, London was the perfect way to celebrate our 30th anniversary! This hotel is nothing to look at from the outside, but walk into the lobby and the world changes - totally. The staff was accommodating from the first arrival to helping us connect with the tour we had scheduled before leaving to anything we asked for in our room. We were comfortable, well cared for and it was accessible to the Kensington High Street Station and major bus lines. The only disappointment was the instant coffee (both regular and decaf as well as tea) plus the internet did not connect. There was going to be a fee, which was not disclosed online, of 10 pounds a day - a bit high considering what we are used to when we have to pay in the States. Oh, face cloths were not provided - only towels. So, we found a drug store just up the street and bought one for each of us. All in all, though, we would probably think of staying here again; our 6 nights' stay were very restful.

Great location, rooms need a remodel
Europe Traveller Jun 15, 2009
We chose this hotel as the base for our exploration of London. Great location a block from High Street in Kensington (a major ... shopping street), a block from the High Street Kensington Underground (subway) stop, and a 5 minute walk from Kensington Palace and Kensington Gardens. The rooms have air conditioning--which is great during the summer, but could use some refurbishment. The bathtub/shower takes quite a bit of practice to get temperature to (and keep it at) where you want it. Walls are thin and we could often hear the rooms around us. For the price, this is a great hotel, though.

The Brittania is a nice residental pub with great food just a few blocks away. There is also Indian food, Italian food, and other foods on High Street.

Copthorne Tara represents excellent value for the price of the rooms. Super location - one block to Circle Line Tube station ... - yet peaceful and quiet. Rooms immaculately clean and well equipped. Modern, good sized bathroom too. A welcoming hotel in our favorite part of London and we will definitely stay in this hotel again.

We stayed in a club room, this was our retirement celebration trip. The staff was wonderful every day they helped us find ... our way on metro or arranged tours for us. I needed extra pillows due to a recent surgey and no problems. The club room private lounge with breakfast and wine and beer hour was a nice treat. Great location safe and near park and tubes. Ate at resturants, also good. Rooms large and great veiws. Would stay again.

Kensignton is more residential but a hop, skip and a jump away from all the tourist attractions. We found the hotel location extremely convenient as the High Street Tube stop was one block away - we were able to access all major Tube Lines quickly; District, Circle, Jubilee etc... The worst part of the hotel was that check-in was not until 3pm. After arriving from an over-night flight, we didn't find the hotel very accommodating.
--TravelingWithFriends, New York, NY May 27, 2009
Don't pay the outrageous charge for in-room broadband internet access. In the coffee shop are computer terminals that allow you to "pay as you go" in 10 minute chunks. Just pick you time of day so that you aren't competing with kids playing online games.
--Aspiring World Traveller, Salt Lake City, UT May 26, 2009
The Muffin Man is a two minute walk from the hotel and has great breakfast, lunch, and tea choices. Sticky Fingers and the Pasta Caffe are also a short walk away (about ten minutes) and the food is quite good at both places. If you like cupcakes, Buttercup Bakery is about a ten minute walk and Hummingbird Bakery is about a twenty minute walk away! Yum!
