- Chancery Court Hotel, London is situated in one of the capital city's most historic locations and it has an equally fascinating past. High Holborn was originally a Roman road and following the Middle Ages, the area became established as a centre for the legal profession and the city's most influential and powerful people. This is where, for example, the writer Charles Dickens wrote "Oliver Twist" and "Great Expectations" and many scenes in his novels were set in this historic part of London.

Wonderful hotel
We stayed in one of the refurbished rooms in this hotel. We were not told prior to arriving that the hotel is under renovation. Renovations were taking place during the week between 10 and 5 so some days if we were in our room were could hear drilling, etc. but we were out of our room most days and the beauty of our room more than made up for this. Our room was decorated to the highest standards. We did not have a view and probably should have asked for a room across the hall once we realized that but we were so taken with the decor of the room that in the end we didn't care. The staff was very help and the hotel is in a good location with the tube around the corner

Under Renovation
The two reasons I am not giving a five star rating on our second stay at the Chancery Court this year: 1) The hotel is under major renovation, which makes the rooms and restaurant very noisy during the day. That is something that should be made clear at the time of the reservation, rather than a surprise upon arrival; 2) Last time we stayed in a lovely unrenovated room on the 1st Floor. This time, even though the renovation is ongoing, there were no unrenovated rooms available. The design of the renovated rooms is, well, a bit goofy, with wide striped carpeting and pretty bad lighting. For instance, you need a flashlight to see the thermostat at night, since it is not backlit and none of the room lights shine on it's lcd display. All in all the room and bed were very comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful, late night room service was freshly prepared, delivered hot and was delicious, the staff (other than those in the Pearl Restaurant for breakfast, who were rude and hurrying us along) is very friendly and accommodating. It should be a a lovely place to stay again, as soon as the renovation is complete.

Outstanding location
Hotel location is ideal, a two-minute walk from Holborn tube station, which is a direct journey from Heathrow on the Piccadilly line. British Museum is a five-minute walk and many other sights are within a 15-20 minute walk. The Holborn stop makes travel anywhere in central London easy. Hotel is immaculate. We stayed for five nights in two rooms on the club level, with two double beds in each room, and were very pleased with the size of the rooms and amenities. Our rooms faced High Holborn, but we never noticed traffic noise in what is a very busy area. Nice selection of pubs, shops, etc., within a few minutes' walk, as well as many choices for food and convenience items.

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
Close to theatre district of Covent Gardens. Went to a show called "Ghost Stories" at the Duke of Yorks theatre and was scared out of our seats. Many theatres and an abundance of shopping close by in every direction from the hotel.

Comfortable and Spacious
Staff were attentive and provided helpful suggestions. The room was spacious (by European standards) and comfortable for myself and two friends. Well located to the Tube,in a business area with several restaurants nearby and within walking distance of Covent Gardens and the West End.

good hotel, especially if you get a deal
I'd say this is a 4.5 star hotel, between 4 and 5 stars. Like most similar hotels, it tends to be too hot. There are small halogen spotlights everywhere pumping out heat. Please, please be green and replace them with cool bulbs! Breakfast is good but not special. Good as part of a deal, not worth 26 pounds. The location is close to the Holborn tube stop, so you don't have to change to get to or from Heathrow. Be aware that the hotel is on the eastern edge of the so-called West End. Everything further east is dead for tourists at nights and weekends.

Excellent hotel in really convenient
Excellent hotel in really convenient location for theatres and museums in West End and surrounding areas. Staff were extremely polite and very attentive. Room was beautifully clean and well presented. Air conditioning /heating worked very well and was unobtrusive. An expensive but stunning hotel and we shall definitely be returning.
