McBusted Concert

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, the room was very basic but the bathroom was lovely with a great shower. The location of the hotel is perfect and was handy for getting to and from the places we needed. It wasn't far from anywhere at all. For the room the price was expensive enough but overall I would stay here again as it was extremely handy.

expensive

God location and clean but size, quality, stuff and amenities were too low value for the price of the hotel. We had to pay 5£ per bag for leaving the luggage in the luggage room a couple of hours and when we came back for the door of the room was open so anyone could take them.

Great location, but needs some work

The hotel is conveniently located enough -- a block from Paddington Station (easy connections to Heathrow via the Express or Connect service) and half a block from the Paddington tube station. The price wasn't bad either at an average of $76/night across my 5 night stay in a single room. Those are the upsides of the place. The downsides? My room was in the annex of the hotel, so it wasn't connected to the rest of the hotel but was entered directly from an unmarked door facing the street. And my room was also facing the street, so it was quite noisy -- aside from the bus and truck traffic, the hotel is quite close to St. Mary's hospital, so you get sirens and any hour. Ear plugs helped enormously. The annex does not have an elevator so I had to literally lug my luggage to the 3rd floor (4th floor in American parlance), which was a bit of a chore. The room itself was very clean but tiny. The bathroom was a work in progress. It looks newly refurbished to the point that there was no toilet paper holder, towel rack, cup holder, or any other accoutrement. Those were, in fact, still in a box next to the sink, waiting to be installed. Also, the phone booth-like shower was not properly caulked at the bottom, so water leaked out under the glass onto the floor. I mitigated that problem by taking a "Navy shower" and using the bath mat to trap the leakage, but that wasn't really optimal. I brought the matter to the attention of the guy at reception who promised me that he would send someone up to fix the problem. That didn't happen. There was one hiccough during my stay. The staff was confused about the duration of the stay and somehow decided that I was only staying 2 nights instead of 5. So sometime before the last night of my stay, they changed the door look (which uses real keys) because they thought I had left and not returned the key. Fortunately, my stuff was still in the room and things were straightened out quickly. Still, for the money paid and in London, I didn't have higher expectations. The room was a quarter of the price I paid just prior at the Hilton London Metropole down the street and that was a special convention rate. The hotel served me well enough during my stay. For quiet, I would recommend looking at one of the many hotels on Norfolk Square about a block away. But I wouldn't have a problem staying here again if it came to that. None of the downsides were unbearable and the location and price made it easy to extend my stay in London.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Micky's Fish and Chips a block-and-a-half away on Norfolk Place is highly rated and reasonably priced. Breakfast at the very clean and bright Raffles right next door to the Ascot entrance is also inexpensive and good. 5.75 pounds for a full British breakfast (including fried bread and black pudding for those who are into that sort of thing). I enjoyed both places.

Beware!

Booked this hotel on short notice based on price & location. Had a flight cancellation on day prior to arrival but hotel was very unhelpful & unwilling to make ANY accomodation (credit, refund, re-booking or ANYTHING ELSE!) Very unhelpful front desk & not representative of my prior experiences with similar hotels in the Paddington area. Will book elsewhere next time....

Perfect for Paddington

This is my second stay here this month; this time the room and bed were bigger than last time; hotel was overall peaceful and quiet, and a perfect location for an early flight from Heathrow - easy and fast commute with the attraction of being in central London for fun with friends before the flight. I highly recommend it. Only issue was they forgot my wake up call (which did not happen last time, so was likely just one small oversight. I shall return next time I am in London.

Good for a quick place to stay before a flight out

The location is perfect for Paddington Station and Heathrow Express, staff were friendly, hotel was actually quiet for a Sat night! A wide variety of restaurants and pubs within walking distance. Room was small but comfortable, and the TV worked.

Good location but not value for money

Room not so clean. I had to request fresh pillows. There was only a bed and a small nightstand. Not even a chair to sit on and Wardrobe to put your things. Very small shower tub and the door had rust and did not open properly. A couple of hangers available but no hooks to put them on. No lift. You have to be in good shape and physical condition to use the narrow and steep stairs with your heavy bags. Very very noisy since the window of my room was on Praed str. The good side; close to train station and Praed str has a lot of restaurants, fast food chains. Most important for me was the location but I paid less than that for more or less similar type of hotel around Paddington

Filthy, dirty

If you look for a family and clean hotel in Centre Town, this is not the one. Cleaning is nothing to do with European standards. The staff wont't help you at all. The hotel's "posh" name doesn't match. Don't believe the pictures provided. KEEP ON LOOKING FOR ANOTHER HOTEL.
