The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the room and breakfast was good. Excellent value. The only issue was they could not find our booking and my husband had to give his credit card - not such a valentines surprise. We needed another
blanket and there wasn't one in our room.We enjoyed our stay and would definitely come again.
Every member of staff was polite from the helpful, efficient receptionists to the staff at the bar and in the breakfast areas. The setting and grounds were wonderful. While we used the hotel as an overnight stop, we would definitely come again and
use it as a base to explore the local area. Hints of luxury at very reasonable price.
The hotel overall is very nice, however our stay was spoiled by being woken by a phone call from reception at 1.20am asking if the fan in the bathroom was on because the room above had complained about a noisy fan. Our bathroom had no fan and the
noise was from the room next door. It took me another hour and a half to ge back to sleep. We complained to the duty manager in the morning who was apologetic and said she would pass my email address to the hotel manager on Tuesday morning. We have heard nothing since.
It is such a shame that the thoughtless act of another guest would impact so much on a much needed break.
We should have realised that luck was not on our side when on travelling to the hotel there was a major accident requiring the road to be
shut for 2 hours. We arrived at our hotel at 11.30 and did try to call about 45 minutes ahead of our arrival and the receptionist just said a night porter would be there to let us in. We were guided to our room that was a bit of a trek as we walked out of one building into a courtyard and around another building before being shown into another building where we had a room in what appeared to be an attic like room. The alcoves either side of the window had pipes running through so when anyone ran the shower it make a loud noise, even the adjoining rooms were very loud at times. We didn't mind this too much and was looking forward to the breakfast which was in a nice room, tasty, plentiful with very helpful staff. We had the evening meal here which was very nice also and after which we tried to retire to the bar for a drink but there was a wedding party in progress and there were not many places were we could get away from the noise.
We took our drinks to our room and watched a bit of TV only to find there was no BBC channels. It didn't bother us too much until when we visited the bathroom and switched off our light. We could hear the loud hum of a bathroom (not ours) extraction unit for hours! We even complained to the night staff and they said they would look into it but they might not be able to locate the room. We put up with the noise and just lay there dog tired and sleepless until 3am when somebody 'probably from the wedding after last orders' came back to their room and switched it off. This was met by some hurrah! from myself and it was quiet once more.
We were so tired at breakfast but we enjoyed our last feed before leaving this establishment a little early.
I felt that it was value for money but I think they put the wedding guests first.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
It is not close to many sites of interest but ask the hotel before you book first if there is a wedding or you may not get a restful break.
