Welcome to the Royal Highland Hotel, one of the most famous and best loved hotels in Scotland.

One minute from alighting the train, 15 minutes from Inverness airport, and nestling in the vibrant and modern Highland capital of Scotland, is a true delight, a friendly, welcoming, real Scottish hotel of magnetic character and charm. And Inverness hotels just dont come more central than this!

Guests savour two feasts here: the unmistakable hospitality and classical culinary experience of this grand hotel - and the freedom of one of the least crowded parts of Western Europe coupled with the enormous appeal of vibrant Inverness, leisure and business capital of the Highlands of Scotland as an outstanding destination base from which to enjoy and savour a veritable kaleidoscope of activities, great shopping, touring and sightseeing opportunities which surround and abound.

Making it perfect for short breaks and weekend breaks in Inverness (including these inevitable highland shopping breaks), business travel to Inverness, touring Loch Ness, visiting the Grampians and their great castle and whisky trails, and Cairngorms National Park. The wonders of Skye and Lochalsh beckon, as well as the delights of Caithness and Sutherland, with world class golf at Royal Dornoch and Brora (and east of the city at Nairn too), and that special lure which enticed Madonna to have her wedding here in Scotland.

Rest assured that you'll receive a warm welcome. Come and stay with us and appreciate why the hotel is earning such a good reputation. You'll soon wonder why you've never stayed before.

We look forward to meeting you.

Good value

Great central location, we only used it for sleeping so can't comment on food. Place itself is spectacular and it was great that we could leave our luggage in porters lodge prior to check in and after check out, saved us lugging it around. Room was uncomfortably hot with both room and bathroom heater on and on opening window, ledge was covered in years of bird's poo which was off putting!

Smelly Room

I have always enjoyed my stay in the Royal Highland Hotel, Unfortunately this time I was disappointed as our room stank of smoke which clung to our clothes. I mentioned it at reception but they dismissed it. They insisted that it was the positioned of the room and the smell was generated outside. There was no apology or offer of an alternative room. Everything in our case, including some things that weren't worn ,reeked of smoke and had to be washed once we got home . The breakfast was good on choice but still waiting for offer of tea or coffee. On saying that I would stay again but not in the same room.

Great base for the city and surrounding area

Not having visited Inverness before the location of the hotel was ideal. Obvious evidence of recent upgrading of 1st floor rooms which were very individual. Furniture, fittings and bathrooms very impressive. Nice touches e.g. courtesy tray with wide variety of teas, milks and coffees, quality biscuits and even sweets renewed daily. Even a pessimistic sturdy umbrella! Restaurant not used because of the wide range of quality catering alternatives in the city. Weakest aspect was the breakfast facilities. Staff not able to anticipate demand so bread, glasses, grapefruit all ran out and the problems took some time to rectify. Much better breakfast management required and a second day feedback to the hotel management brought some improvement subsequently on both supply and the quality of the cooking. Car parking outside could be a problem if the staff use too many of the 9 spaces.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

Do not miss the well advertised evening folk music in many of the city's pubs. The fascinating Victorian Market is across the road.

Perfect location - next to the station

We arrived by rail from northern Scotland. It was a relief on a hot day to see the hotel right outside the station. We were in Inverness for two days - primarily to visit Fort George and Culloden. The hotel met our needs and was good value for money. Although it is an older hotel, that is also part of its charm. I would return.

Nice Experience

Staying at the Royal Highlands is always nice. The lobby is comfortable and inviting. It begs for you to sit and have a cup of coffee while reading or just people watching. Our room overlooked the train station, but even with the windows open, it was pretty quiet. The only real negative thing I can say about the room, was the mattresses could be better, in fact they were pretty awful. The complementary Scottish breakfast is also a great bargain and the convenience to the train and bus stations makes this the perfect place to base your vacation if you are looking to do day trips of the highlands. I didn't eat at "The Ash" the hotel restaurant, quite frankly because the service was so bad and the prices so high that last time I visited, that I chose to avoid it this trip. But my overall experience of the hotel is good, and I would not hesitate to book my stay there again, the next time I visit Inverness.

lovely

the location is prime, the breakfast divine, and the staff is friendly and courtious. the biggest drawback is if you are driving and you don't get one of the 9 free parking spaces you have to pay to park 2 blocks away.

Excellent location, good hotel,

Excellent location, good hotel, friendly service. Only one minus: When you check in, you receive a coupon for 20% discount in the restaurant. When we tried to use it, we were told that it was not valid for lunch, only for dinner. This should be clearly printed on the coupon (oral information in a difficult dialect just isn't good enough) in order to avoid except misunderstandings and frustrations.
