In the heart of Glasgow stands the historic Grand Central Hotel. A much-loved icon in the city, the hotel has undergone a 20 million refurbishment transforming it into one of Glasgow's most superior, conference, banqueting and short break destinations and once again takes its place as Glasgow's leading four-star hotel. Whether you're looking for an inspirational conference, meeting or training venue, a spectacular banqueting suite for your next event, planning a fabulous wedding, looking to indulge in a glass of bubbles in Champagne Central, or simply enjoy a relaxing break, The Grand Central Hotel is the leading business venue and first choice luxury hotel in Glasgow. From the stunning Grand Room with capacity for 400 to the eclectic mix of 21 unique and flexible event rooms, from the beautiful Champagne Bar to the stylish and relaxing bedrooms - everything at The Grand Central Hotel has been beautifully renovated and loving restored to reveal a truly magnificent hotel. Caledonian Railways opened central Station, the main train hub of Glasgow in 1879 with the neighboring Central hotel opening just 4 years later. The hotel was designed by Scottish architect Robert Rowand Anderson and he adopted the Queen Anne style of architecture; an informal style that includes picturesque details, intricate gables and multi-paned windows. Over the years, the hotel was extended and adapted but the main architecture was maintained. The Central Hotel played host to many significant celebrity faces but is probably best known for being the venue to which the world's first long-distance television John Logie Baird transmitted pictures on 24 May 1927. The Central Hotel has entertained most of the world's leading politicians, from JFK to Winston Churchill and Hollywood superstars including Laurel and Hardy and Frank Sinatra, not to mention Roy Rogers and his trusty Trigger! It was reported that Trigger had a bigger suite than Roy Rogers! The Future, now the transformation has been completed, the Grand Central Hotel has once again taken its place as Glasgow's leading four-star hotel. It is now a must-stay destination for shoppers, theatergoers and the short break guest to the city. It has the latest luxuries for business travelers and gives conference and banqueting organizers the WOW factor they want for their next event. The best luxury hotel in Glasgow is back.

Nice Hotel

This is a nice hotel, very clean and remodeled nice but there is no air conditioning, Don't stay at the hotel on a Friday or Saturday or Holiday weekend because the noise from the bars won't let you sleep its very loud. The staff is really great they helped up with whatever we needed, but this isn't a 4 star hotel, more like a 4 star hotel. They don't even have ice or soda machines on the floors and no work out center or pool. I would not stay at this hotel again and do not recommend others do so, recommend stay at a national hotel when staying in European countries.

Super short break

Perfect location if you arrive by train as you're in the station. The room was spotless, well appointed and with a good bathroom. We thought it could be noisy overlooking the station but barely heard anything. Lots of good eating places within a few yards of the hotel and you're only moments from shopping and a short walk from other attractions.

Dining tip: In Hotel

If you're not on b&b the hotel does super bacon or sausage rolls and brilliant porridge in the Deli. Very reasonable.

Cleanliness overlooked slightly

Front of house staff are excellent and extremely helpful. Unfortunately the housekeeping let the hotel down slightly. The ensuite had a tootkpick on the floor when I checked into my room. I stayed a total of 4 nights and the sheets were not changed once during my stay. There were also dirty trays left in corriors for hours after people had finished with their room service. The bar and restaurant staff were excellent though.

Lovely hotel with such friendly staff

Staff so helpful and friendly. Food (breakfast and evening meal) in their Tempus restaurant excellent. Would, without a doubt, opt to stay here again when next in Glasgow. Ideal location - very central. Only negative is that the net curtains in the room were filthy! The hotel was renovated in January 2011 and it looks as if the curtains haven't been washed since!

Glasgow mini trip

Can not beat the location, especially if you are travelling by rail! The hotel is beautifully decorated, clean, and accommodating. My one caveat-be careful of the room service breakfast that is offered. I got charged 21 pounds for tomatoes, musrooms, tea and milk because it was part of the "Scottish Breakfast" menu even though it was not complete. And oddly, the day before onlyI got charged 11 pounds and ordered more food! The russian waitress could not explain the reason and I could not send it back. But besides a VERY expensive breakfast, it was terrific!

Great value, excellent location

We had a great overall experience with the hotel. We had a spacious, quiet room and service was excellent. As a result of reading reviews, we requested a room on an upper floor. As we had booked a twin room, this request became a problem. After arriving for a flight at 7:00 a.m. and checking our luggage at the hotel, we arrived back at 3:00 p.m. After many assurances of getting our desired room, we finally gave up at 5:00 and took a double room. The rest of the stay was totally enjoyable.

Scottish adventure

Clean modern rooms right in train station, making travel convenient. Upscale bar in hotel, exotic drinks. Location is close to George's Square, shops and pubs. Only complaint is that there was a large party every night and some guests did not respect "sleep time" for other guests.

Grand Hotel

The staff are very helpfull. We had a problem with the free breakfast we were supposed to get as advetised, but got it straightened out the next day once I dug up the travel agency ad for their hotel. I believe they then contacted them for clarification. and said we would get it from then on, although we did miss the first morning as a result. The breakfast is excellent. The rooms are very comfortable, and we did change rooms due to a small problem in the first room with the carpet lifting at the bathroom entrance which was a tripping hazard and a small patch of what looked like mold on the ceiling. They were very accomodating in showing us other rooms and selected one overlooking the station. All in all we were very pleased with the hotel and would definitely stay again.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Get the 500 Glasgow Airport Shutttle for 7.50 pounds return. It drops you off at the corner of Bothwell and the hotel is a short walk across the street. The pickup is on Waterloo St - also a short walk. It runs every 15 minutes or less. The drivers are very helpful. When you exit the airport go to the far left past the taxis.
