Small Room

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The downside to the hotel was the verrrry small room. It might have been OK for two people, but we had three.

Be careful of the closing times of attactions particularly in the off-season. We missed St. Mungo's Cathedral twice.

Comes with breakfast and a dram

We enjoyed our stay at the Brunswick -- it was walking distance from the train station and a number of good restaurants, and the bar attached to the hotel has the most reasonably priced drinks of anywhere we visited in the UK, along with a decent Continental breakfast buffet. The decor is amusingly funky (e.g., purple and red walls, pleather headboard with their logo); both the room and the bathroom were on the smallish side, with a low bed, so it might not be ideal if one needs lots of elbow room or assistance manuevering about, but for a youngish couple it was fine. It was all clean and comfortable and warm (goosedown duvet and pillows, quality sheets), and the variety of free postcards were a definite plus in my book. Pleasantly quiet enough for daytime naps and lounging about in-between our wanderings around the city, and thumbs up for the free in-room wireless.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

The Merchant City area of Glasgow includes Buchanan Galleries (a multi-story mall) as well lots of shops, ranging from upscale to junky -- we could have easily done all of our holiday shopping in the area had we felt like lugging it all back across the Atlantic.

Funky Hotel/ Great Location

The hotel is small but situated right in downtown Glasgow. We were minutes from shopping, museums, and night clubs. The room could have been cleaner, but was comfortable for as tiny as it was. The morning breakfast was not worth sitting down to and I would suggest going elsewhere for eating. The owner and the staff couldn't have been nicer though, and that makes up for a lot. The halls were oddly painted in one color on each level; everything from the walls, to the trim, to the doors. It was a bit surreal but kind of fun if taken in stride. Again, I'd suggest the hotel mostly on friendliness of staff and location. This is not an upscale hotel and should not be confused for one. Also, the included parking was two blocks away and at a 20% off rate. It was not free, nor overly convenient, but bearable.
