New Lanark World Heritage Site is a truly unique setting. Surrounded by native woodlands and close to the famous Falls of Clyde, New Lanark was founded in 1785 as a cotton spinning village and became famous as the site of Robert Owen's pioneering social reforms. Now beautifully restored, New Lanark is both a living community and tourist attraction. New Lanark Mill Hotel is a stunning award winning conversion from an original 18th century mill. It offers fantastic views across the surrounding conservation area and River Clyde.

Each of the 38 comfortably furnished and spacious bedrooms and superior suites provides the perfect haven of rest at the end of the day. All thirty-eight of the bedrooms enjoy spectacular views across the River Clyde or surrounding conservation area. 34 of the 38 rooms have a crisply decorated, en-suite bathroom fitted with a bath and shower. The remaining four have been adapted for wheelchair users and have a roll-in shower.

The hotel also have 8 self-catering cottages known as "The Waterhouses" for those who prefer some extra space (great for conference organisers). These beautiful one and two-bedroom self-catering apartments are built right on the riverbank just yards from the New Lanark Mill Hotel.

New Lanark Mill Hotel and the Waterhouses each hold Gold Awards from the Green Tourism Business Scheme in recognition of the green credentials and sustainable practices.

World Heritage Site Location

The hotel, located in a World Heritage site, is situated in a valley and the sound of the waterfalls can be heard from every room. We enjoyed the walk up the river and seeing the falcons. We were there in an heatwave (unusual for Scotland), so the room did get quite warm but found that closing the drapes helped a lot. The pool and health club, which had lots of natural light, were very clean and well equiped. The meals were excellent. The room was clean but is getting a bit dated as the hotel is now about 12 years old. A good way to visit would be to arrive early in the afternoon to tour the village site, (allow about 3 hours) then have a swim or hike before dinner at the hotel. Dumphries House (recently restored with Prince Charles' assistance) is nearby and well worth the visit. Families should definitely consider the self-catering option.
