- Purfleet, one of the settings for Bram Stoker's seminal 1897 novel Dracula, is located on the northern banks of the River Thames, within the eastern boundary of the M25. Attractions in Purfleet include Rainham Marshes RSPB reserve and the Purfleet Heritage & Military Centre, while nearby you can find the popular Lakeside and Blue Water shopping centres, Essex Arena, Tilbury Fort and the world renowned Brands Hatch motor racing circuit. The area also boasts excellent transport links, including the M25, Eurostar Channel Tunnel connection from nearby Ebbsfleet, the Dartford Tunnel and easy access to London via the A13.

Basic but comfortable for a one night stay
Stayed for one night and there were good and bad points. It was basic but relatively good value and would stay again but only if for the odd night. Good: the view was great; the room was spacious; the bed was extremely comfortable and bedding was clean; shower was hot and with power; heated towel rails so warm towels; heater in the room worked so well had to switch it off as we were too warm; full english breakfast was absolutely delicious; staff extremely friendly and courteous. Not so good: tv in room old and remote didnt work; the bar had run out of vodka, crisps and peanuts and not sure what else; the 'public toilets' in the bar area are to be avoided as distinctly unpleasant (you would be advised to go to your own room). Not sure why its website states beautifully refurbished or if this was done years ago because general appearance is very tired.

The room was clean and comfortable. I was on the third floor with a view of the river. The hotel is located in a quiet, residential / light industrial area. It's about a 15 minute walk to the Purfleet train station at a slow pace. I did not walk this at night, so I don't know how "scary" it may appear after dark. You are just outside of zone 6, but still within the London oyster card area. You can get from Heathrow to Purfleet using nothing but mass transit, however if you are leaving on an early flight or on a Sunday you will probably need to get a taxi. They had contact information for them at the front desk. The food service at the ground level restaurant seemed a bit odd to me, but I just chalked it up to different country, different ways of doing things. There is no wait staff to take your order at the table, you have to order from the bar, but then someone brings the food out to your table. Saturday's service was much better than Friday's, but Friday's "waitress" seemed more interested in the bartender than anything else. The food was excellent. I recommend the lamb shank. I did not go to the downstairs bar area, so I can't comment on it. However, they sounded like they were having a good time. There is WiFi, but it is only available in the public areas. All in all a nice place & I would stay there again.

Get an Oyster Card and use the train. It's cheaper than renting a car & the public transit system in London is fantastic.
