Beyond basic

The hotel location was great. We were about 25 minutes away from the start of the Edinburgh Festival action, and only 5 minutes from the train station. There was quite a lot of noise on the first night from people coming in late but that's to be expected with the activity in the city at the time. What was disappointing was the layer of dust which covered the room, dirty mirrors and carpets, finding our toothbrushes in an unclean bath after housekeeping had been and not having a bath mat or handtowel. We paid a lot given the time of year and so expected a lot more.

Hot and fume-y

This hotel was actually quite nice, but the weather had decided to be very warm the weekend my husband and I visited, and due to safety reasons, the window was locked down to where it could only be opened about 3 inches. This was not enough to get a good breeze to help cool the room down, and there were no fans available. The room had also been recently painted, and while we were able to get used to it rather quickly, it was a bit overpowering at first. The hotel bar/restaurant was open 24/7, which was fantastic, and offered free Wi-Fi. It was not free in the rooms, however. The hotel was in a wonderful location, only 2 blocks from the Haymarket train station, and the Airlink bus stop that will take either to the airport, or downtown. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. I would very much recommend this hotel to friends, as I know the problems we had would both cleared up by now.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Take the Airlink bus to and from downtown and buy the return ticket (£6 return, or £3.50 one way). It's cheaper than a taxi, and quicker than regular city bus and it drops you off/picks up 2 blocks away.

Basic and Expensive

The room was big, 2 of the bed legs were broken so one end was lower than other, toilet was blocked, shower just trickled, furniture needed updating, bathroom wasn't very nice, no bath mat or rail to hang your towel. Went to see the Rugby so was only in the hotel to sleep however would have liked the room to be a bit nicer and more comfortable at £80 a night.

Shabby but great staff and location

stayed three nights for the fringe festival so the room was expensive. the hotel is ten min walk from the town centre and handy for the E.I.C.C. one if the fringe venues lots of good pubs and places to eat nearby. staff very helpful however the room was shabby and furnitue had seen better days.

Not good value for money

The room could be beautiful, huge area with high ceilings, a typical Edinburgh town house but the room was shabby with bulbs missing from the lights and in need of a dust. The shower didn't work in the bathroom and the shelf at the end of the bath was pretty grotty. Glad I only booked one night.

Best Travelodge room I've ever seen

Very helpful and polite staff. I was upgraded from a single room to a ground floor double and allowed to put my bicycle in the room overnight. The room was large, clean and comfortable. Very useful to have evening food and cooked breakfast in a Travelodge (extra charge).

Dreary but clean

Hotel was dreary although both bedroom and bathroom were clean which is all you need. I always expect a modern building with a Travelodge but this was a very basic conversion of an older Edwardian? building. Location easy enough to find and within 5 - 10 min walk of Haymarket station.

Very disappointed with this Travelodge. The only thing in its favour is the location.
