Will be happy to stay again

Our 3-night stay at The George was excellent. The room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The staff was very courteous and helpful. Bonus: The location was perfect -- a short walk to Waverly station where you can catch any form of transport. Note: there is no WiFi and the Business Center is severely lacking. If you can manage around that, you're good-to-go.

perfect location

Great location, close to the train station as well as all the bars, restaurants and shops. Could not have been better. Only downside was that the coffee provided in the room was Nescafe red cup instant - really?? A hotel such as this needs to think about the little things like that too.

More than we expected!

After staying in London for several days we spent two nights at The George Hotel and couldn't believe how nice it was for what we were paying - especially compared to London. The location was perfect for us and the room was huge by European standards. The only cons were the parking situation - but if you don't have a car you have nothing to worry about - and that breakfast was not included.

Wrapping up Scotland visit

This was the last few days of our honeymoon & Scotland tour. The hotel was lovely & staff was nice. We were out seeing Edinburgh most of the visit and this was a great location to rest and then hit it again. I would have liked to see free wifi in all the rooms. They do offer 30mins free wifi in the lobby per day, this was nice but seems charging for wifi is behind the times. Hotel has a nice restaurant/bar and there are tons in walking distance for great variety. Edinburgh is wonderful & the people of Scotland are amazing. Enjoy your visit!

first room was small and bed was coverd in hair second room was better but very small window over looking back of hotel as a result room very dark and lights had to be on at all times there was also deliveries at 7am every day which of course woke us both up.you also had to provide a credit card on arrival to be able to use hotel restaurant and room service which is silly (will not except visa card ) tempus bar was stupidly priced overall would not return to this hotel its over priced and not worth the price ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

relaxing break

room and location lovely but staff at reception left lot to be desired! hotel was in great spot - very handy for station and in reach of lots of fab bars and shops. It is larger than loot=ks from outside but rooms were well furnished and spotlessly clean. only negative was attitude of recpetion area staff - several couples including ourselves waiting to be seen but only two on desk. Couple of ladies behind us were apologised to for long delay and offered a drink whislt waiting whereas we and several other couples also waiting were ignored. Reception staff cofused ourbooking despite us having documents with us - and then were clearly heard to be discussing issues re drinks voucher within our earshot which seemed unprofessional - this should have been done when no customers present. breakfast was good but not special but no surprise really when catering on such a large scale. i would return to this hotel in future however as the location and standard of rooms outweighed the negatives.

Fantastic weekend, will be back soon!

We stayed for one night in February and it was absolutely great. Just wish we had stayed longer and had meals in the hotel as the menu looked great and the restaurant we chose want up to scratch. It's a great central location and the staff are so helpful. The rooms was a standard double that looked like an executive room. Absolutely great hotel, would recommend it to anyone.

Have a look in the OmniCentre next to the playhouse. Edinburgh can be expensive to eat in but it had loads of great value places with deals for lunch or half price drinks offers.

Excellent location, just need a tweak

I thought the hotel was very lovely, with a well appointed lobby that was a nice place to sit and visit with friends and other guests. The kilted concierge was very helpful - when he had a chance to help me. It was a very busy hotel and perhaps lacked in staffing at times. Too bad. The room was really nice - one thing - the old (but restored) windows were very high up so that what you can see is the clock tower next door and roof tops. I didn't actually mind but someone might. Otherwise, it was recently updated and had a great, contemporary tiled bath. The one thing I would check before arrival is the availability of in-room internet. I did not have it and that proved to be a problem when a huge hurricane headed towards the east coast where I'm from.
