The fashion house of Rosita Missoni created a distinctive design ethos, with brilliant use of color and eye-catching style, in this brand new hotel. The sheer drama of the property will appeal to anyone with a sense of excitement. The hotel, in a striking modern building just off the Royal Mile, is within easy reach of Edinburgh's shopping, restaurants, bars, and visitor attractions.

Amazing location and staff

We just loved this hotel! The staff was amazing from the time we check in until the time we left. They had a mini bar with water and soft drinks that were free and the Missoni bath robes are fantastic. The location was very convenient. Would definitely go back.

Great hotel, even better service

We stayed at Hotel Missoni for three nights, and we were honestly blown away. I'm not a fan of the Missoni color/pattern palette, but the hotel is beautifully done, even tasteful (!) and the layout is comfortable but chic. Our room was perfectly sized, with a nice big bathroom and modern fixtures, and the restaurant and bar (we visited both) were also lovely. But the kicker is the *thought* for guests: the staff is lovely, warm and helpful, and there are little touches that make you feel welcome left and right (the minibar is complimentary, they do 2 pieces of laundry/night, again complimentary, they supply significantly more than the minimum toiletries, etc). The location is great too – right off the Royal Mile but on a less-than-touristy side street. In all, we loved staying here. Sure, it's a bit spendy, but if you're looking for a romantic getaway and planning to spend a bit more money, go here and skip the 'old glamour' (which can be a bit stale) of the more established institutions.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The Mussel and Steak Bar, just around the corner from the hotel on Grassmarket, is a great place for a delicious (if simple) meal. Lovely staff, fab food, fun atmosphere.

It was worth paying for the car

It was worth paying for the car parking to avoid hassle and they were flexible with the time when we had to leave. Our room was in an older part of the building overlooking the Royal Mile and had no soundproofing so was very noisy during the night.

live-in art

Great location, steps from the Royal Mile. Beautiful, modern minimalist design - you're staying in an artistic design statement. However, try to find a drawer that holds more than two pairs of socks, or a place to put your toothbrush! Staff was very helpful and professional and responded quickly to our requests.

Nice hotel, but not quite a 5-star

Hotel was a nice, trendy hotel as I would have expected from the description. Location is fantastic, right in the heart of the Royal Mile. I'm not sure it's quite a 5-star hotel from my experience but ranks a solid 4+. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were comfortable and functional although a little small for a 5-star. They do have a few nice perks like free 2 pieces of laundry a day and free soft drinks in the mini-bar (a nice touch I thought) as well as free movies (if you wanted to stay in). But, again location is excellent. Just a short walk up the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle. Lots to do nearby (catch the tour buses about 100 yards up the Royal Mile), plenty of nightlife around and lots of shops, pubs and restaurants all nearby.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

If you're new to the city, take one of the double-decker buses that will give you a tour of the city. I prefer the ones with live tour guides, but even the recorded ones provide a good view of the highlights of the city and some great historical information. You can get on and off the buses all day too.

Italienisches Flair in Schottland
