Good location
Only problem we had was with the meaning of a standard room. A standard room in this hotel means two twin beds not a single double bed.

When you need to eat, the pubs on the Royal Mile are the best value and serve very good food.

Basic
Staff member, Michelle was lovely and patient. She offered great tips around the area. The room size was very disappointing. 3 adults with a small double bed and pull out futon type couch that took up the entire room. The mattresses were really flimsy too. They didn't have a safe to lock up valuables and the alarm was on the tv. But the room was clean and short walk around town.

Definately make an advanced reservation for the Witchery Restaurant and St. Mary's Close tour. Both were booked the entire weekend of Hogmanay.

Good Location and Breakfast; minimal furnishings
The room and the hotel is very basic (tiny lobby, and in the room no closets or drawers; no luggage stands; no shampoo or lotion; tiny end tables, no wakeup calls, etc.). But what is there is functional, clean, and comfortable. The location is extremely convenient, being 5 minutes walk to the intersection of Royal Mile and South Bridge St., and so close to Edinburgh University, restaurants, sightseeing, tourist attractions, shopping, transportation, and bars. A taxi trip to Waverly (train) station was 4 pounds, and to airport was 22 pounds. Reasonable breakfast -- all cold items except scrambled eggs and sausages. Staff is helpful. I will happily select it again.

Many reasonable restaurants in all four directions at the intersection of Royal mile and Southbridge, including buffets, fast foods, and many types of ethnic cousines. Lines to get into bars on weekend nights.

Great, convenient location
The staff were friendly, breakfast which was included was good, although a little variety in the menu would have been nice. This hotel is conveniently located about a block off the Royal Mile. Very convenient for sightseeing. Hotel opened in 2007 so it is still fairly new. Air conditioning was nice! Taxi service superb for this location. No waiting.

All Good
The room wasn't very large, but it was very clean, and the surfaces were new and well cared for. The breakfast (in June 2011) was a continental-British hybrid: scrambled eggs, sausages, cereal, toast and other bread-y items, fruit, yoghurt, tea/coffee, juice. Everything tasted good and was fresh. The breakfast room was on the small side, which meant that if you hit the rush, it was at times difficult to find a table. Also, we had an unhappy experience getting directions from one of the receptionists who seemed unable to differentiate between left and right even when looking at a map. Everyone else, however, performed exceptionally. This hotel isn't pretentious, but offers a nice, neat, and straightforward experience. I would recommend it for people who expect reasonable quality out of their accommodation but who don't want to spend too much to get it. We definitely would go back.

Take the Lothian AirLink bus to and from the airport to Waverley Bridge in central Edinburgh. It only cost 6 pounds round trip which is much less than a taxi. Waverley Bridge is only about a 5-10 min. walk from the hotel.

Excellent Location
Great location! Steps away from Edinburgh University with plenty of restaurants and pubs. Edinburgh Castle was a 7 minute walk from the hotel. The wi-fi access did not work which was frustrating. The pull-out sofa bed is not suitable for an adult but could be for a small child. Staff was helpful and accommodating.
