Great hotel in a great location

The desk staff was friendly and helpful at check in. I had called O2 to have a pre-paid sim card sent to the hotel and the person at the desk remembered getting the package and immediately handed it to me while we were checking in. We got there at about 11 am so they tagged our bags and stored them until check in time. We went to walk around Edinburgh until about 4:30 then came back. Our bags were already in our room and everything was clean and set up. The room was large by U.S. standards which makes it ginormous by European standards. The staff were helpful in suggesting great places to eat, visit and even a good tattoo shop. The train station is about a 2 minute walk due to waiting for traffic lights but 2 round trip tickets to Waverly station is 4.80 a cab would cost about 8.00. Over all a great hotel in a great location!!!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Two hints: 1) there are several bakeries near by so a coffee and breakfast "pie" are near by and cheap. 2) The Haymarket train station is a very short walk, 2 round trip tickets to Waverly (in the middle of the city) are cheaper than a cab ride in most cases.

My actual stay was in the Club

My actual stay was in the Club house not the main hotel. It is the older part of the hotel and as such it is described as "traditional". It was basic if a bit tired, but clean and comfortable. The best thing is that it is a bit of rabbit warren of rooms, with stairs and corridors all over the place. There is lift though for those who need it.

Very friendly staff where nothing

Very friendly staff where nothing is too much trouble, the breakfast was excellent, and the evening meal was also very tasty and good value for money. Overall, a most enjoyable stay.

Building is a poor reflection

Building is a poor reflection of Hilton reputation.Very down at heel and the appearance of a mouse in our room on Saturday evening was shocking to say the least!!!.The staff on duty were excellent and very helpful but despite the cost of the weekend stay, facilities were very poor.Given its superb location in Edinburgh a lot more could be done to develop this site to meet its potential worth.

Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor

Very beautiful historic building, very classy ultra-modern interior, We walked to Castle and Royal Museum of Scotland, enjoyed street performers of Fringe Festival. August in Edinburgh is great! Across the street to bus station for easy ride to airport.

Room stunk of cigarettes. Large room and good facilities in room but bathroom layout not so good. (shower over bath with curtain along one side meaning that the toilet got all wet.)
