Old Town hotel keeps the party going

Originally built in 1621 for the Guild of Tailors, Tailors Hall Hotel was established in 1998 following a full restoration of the property. But history is not really the focal point here -- instead, it is the lively, fun-loving atmosphere, central location and affordable rates that keep fans of the Tailors Hall Hotel coming back. The distinctive stone building contains 42 guest rooms, from singles to quads. Some Tailors Hall Hotel guest rooms overlook the spacious courtyard that serves as home to The Three Sisters pub, an Edinburgh hot spot.

Highlights
  • Situated in a courtyard with The Three Sisters pub
  • Five-minute walk to the Royal Mile
  • All rooms and public areas are nonsmoking
Rooms

Tailors Hall Hotel guest rooms provide just the right amount of amenities so guests can lay down their heads for a few hours before hitting the pavement again the next morning. A central location near the Royal Mile means all of the best sights of Edinburgh are nearby.

Choose from single, twin, double, triple and quadruple rooms. Each features free high-speed Internet access, an LCD flat-panel television, in-room movies (fees apply), air conditioning, tea- and coffee-making facilities, an in-room safe and en-suite facilities with complimentary bath amenities and a hair-dryer. Some guest rooms overlook the courtyard and The Three Sisters.

Entertainment

For Scottish hospitality, historic character, live music and a great pint, look no further than The Three Sisters, right outside the door of the Tailors Hall Hotel. The fun-loving atmosphere hits a new level when the cobblestone courtyard fills with revelers on festivals and special occasions. Live sports and music events are shown on the large plasma screen in the courtyard. The lager and the cocktails flow freely, but for guests that must eat, they can do that here, too. Room service is available for guests of the Tailors Hall Hotel.

Book somewhere else!

Rooms, Decor and overall place is dirty. Reception has a large stain on the carpet and chairs with peeling leather - a preview of what's to come. Rooms had not been cleaned in some time - peeling wallpaper, cobwebs and dirt. This would be great if I was filming a B-horror movie but fails as a place to stay. It has a pub downstairs, which could be nice - but in the morning for the optional breakfast service, everything is sticky. Everything. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else. At least the staff was cheerful, much in the same way the band kept playing on the Titanic.

Watch out

The hotel is part of a complex that includes a very large bar which attracts big groups of people, especially Stag and Hen dos. This means it is very noisy. When I challenged the staff at 2am as they were rolling kegs of beer across the cobbled courtyard. I was simply told by the duty manager that there should be a warning on the site that it may not always be possible to sleep well there - I'VE NEVER HEARD ANYONE SAY ANYTHING LIKE THIS, A HOTEL THAT ACKNOWLEDGES IT MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE FOR GUESTS TO SLEEP. Also although apparently good value, the charge does not include breakfast despite the fact that nowhere does it say 'room only'. I was gob-smacked at the response I got when I asked why it wasn't explained on the site or my confirmation.

Not A Bad Place

This hotel is reasonably priced for its location. The room has a comfortable bed and a very powerful shower. However the rrom wasn't the cleanest with a nice disgarded tisue under the radiator, and its fairly run down but for the price I suppose one can't really complain. People must be aware that the hotel is attached to a lively pub, which come a Friday and Saturday night gets very loud! Perfect if your a party person not so if you like an early nights!

This hotel from the pictures looks

This hotel from the pictures looks good, but in real life it is some what tired and dated. Location is good, but that is the only positive. Rooms are scruffy and general standards in the hotel are not great. No internet available at all. Bar area used for breakfast smelt very poor. I would not use that hotel again. A colleague who stayed at the same hotel different room on the same night thought the same.

The location of the hotel is perfect

The location of the hotel is perfect and coulnd't be better. Unfortunately, that's the only good thing. The carpet and the wall paper in the room were missing in some places. We also had ants in the room. We wouldn't recommend this hotel.

1st time to Edinburgh

I can't say I wasn't warned, but I definitely had a different image in mind when booking this hotel. I knew there was a bar downstairs but was thinking more like a neighborhood pub - a fun place to have a couple drinks before bed; ok for a family etc .... this is a HUGE sports bar. If you have a family, it is a bit uncomfortable to walk through the courtyard to get to the hotel entrance through throngs of drinking, yelling futbolers. Definitely for a younger crowd. The room and elevators have the sense that a few drunken people have been there and missed the toilets (ie urine smell). I hate to sound harsh and we definitely aren't high maintenance but I guess we are just too old for that scene now :) The location in Old Town is great and it is truly a walking town - a bit far to walk from the train station but otherwise once in old town it is all within walking distance. Lots of bars, cafes and restaurants in the area. We took a walking tour with Sandemanns (meet outside of Starbucks at 11 am) which was fabulous. It is a free walking tour - 3 1/2 hours and was REALLY good. the guides work on tips only. Try to get [...]!

Great location close to the Royal

Great location close to the Royal Mile and the Grassmarket. Our room was on the right hand side of the beer garden and to get there you had to climb up some stairs which seemed quite dirty and covered in split alcohol. The bed was very uncomfortable with springs sticking into me. However, the hotel was reasonably prices (for Edinburgh) and location excellent.

Went to Edinburgh for Fringe.

Went to Edinburgh for Fringe. This hotel is ideally situated a few meters from the Royal Mile/Waverly station. It had a excellent sports-bar, The Three Sisters, and the room was clean and nicely presented. My only real issues were that breakfast is NOT included on any of their rates, most hotels these days include at least a continental breakfast and there was no coffee in the room, only tea. I would happily stay there again if they included these.
