It is what it is... Don't expect
It is what it is... Don't expect anything and you will not be disappointed. One note - My room was very noisy. Apparently there are clubs around it and groups of noisy people were hanging around late at night.

The hotel needs a major renovation.
The hotel needs a major renovation. From the outside it looks terrible. The reason I stayed twice is the very convenient location. Its shabby but I guess most of the guests are short stay via travel agencies and bus tours but for me staying for over 2 weeks, it was the convenience only.

Overall cleanliness was good,
Overall cleanliness was good, however thick dust at the bottom of the wardrobe, for the price we paid was a bargain, One major reoccurring incident that housekeeping left our room door unlocked, this was reported to reception who stated our complaint would be passed to the manager. The following day on returning to our room in the evening found again our room door left unlocked this also happened to our friends room next to us, yet again complaint made to reception. It seems the security of our possessions was not a priority, a written complaint have been made to head office, 3 weeks on no reply received yet.

The hotel rates support the standards
The hotel rates support the standards within the hotel. The hotel does require major updating and its like stepping back to the 1970's. The hotel reception staff are not very customer focused. My stay was OK but the hotel could do with a complete re-vamp. The postive is that it is in a central location.

A decent hotel; an excellent value
I was drawn to the Britannia because its "book-ahead" price on [...] was half of what the other hotels I was considering wanted. I read through the mixed reviews of the place on various site, but then decided to go ahead and book. I needn't have worried. The Britannia is a decent, clean, tourist-class hotel. Yes, I there were several things that could have been better:-- There was no clock in the room.-- The television got only five channels.-- The cord used to open and shut the curtains was broken.-- The wallpaper was missing in three small areas, presumably because it had come loose and they just scraped the loose part off.Although some areas of the hotel showed signs of recent renovation, my room showed its age. Still, it was clean and the bed was comfortable. In addition, there was no internet access in my room (but free WiFi was available in the lobby and on some lower floors and it will, I am told, soon be available throughout the hotel). The staff are well trained in asking arriving guests to sign up for various meal programs offered at the hotel restaurant, but not so well trained in other respects. When I checked in, the desk clerk confirmed my prepaid [...] reservation, but when I checked out, the desk clerk (a different one) claimed they had no record of my having paid. I trust this will be properly sorted out. For me, these were all minor inconveniences, and the room served my needs very well during my week-long stay.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
I liked the Playwright's Cafe, tucked away on a side street near the cathedral. The menu featured a variety of traditional and innovative dishes, the prices were reasonable, and the staff very friendly.

Old (Mid 20th Century) concrete
Old (Mid 20th Century) concrete high rise building. Room was spacious with separate toilet and bathroom. Dated facilities but nethertheless comfortable and convenient. Fantastic price for a great city centre hotel. 1 minute walk from a decent Bar/Restaurant plaza.

Stayed at this hotel for an event
Stayed at this hotel for an event at the Ricoh Arena. Parking wasn't clearly understood until we pulled up outside the hotel and asked at reception. Parking is on a pay & display car park, however the hotel do cover some of the cost. We were first given to keys to a room and when we opened the door found someone else was already staying in that room. After being allocated another room, this room was clean but had a stale smell of cigarettes and as non-smokers we found the smell never disappeared even leaving the windows open. We didn't use the hotel for food however had a drink in the bar and found the prices very reasonable. Considering the price we paid for the room, we can't really grumble. The hotel is very centrally located for the City centre.

Very good access to bus station
Very good access to bus station and to Coventry University. Better than expected interior for the price I paid (£30) - walk-in price is nearer to £100.
