I had booked two nights at the

I had booked two nights at the Best Western Chester based on what appeared to be a lovely hotel in a good location. However, whilst the entrance foyer and the stairwell are lovely, I was not as impressed with the quality of the room. I was accommodated in the old section of the hotel. I understand that the building is an older building, however there is no climate control and when opening the window, I was confronted with the noise from the rail station immediately across from the hotel. On making a cup of coffee, the kettle failed to work and the teaspoon was filthy. Upon contacting reception, I was met with a somewhat apathetic attitude and it took them over an hour to arrange for the kettle and spoon to be replaced. Other sections of the room required attention and housekeeping was generally poor.

It is what the neighbors see !!!!

Common rooms are very clean and beautifully appointed. Bedroom had cobwebs in the corners, peeling wallpaper and a VERY tiny bathroom. Queens is a short walk to town with a free bus just accross the street if you don't wish to walk. One small elevator services the entire hotel. There are several small sets of stairs separating the wings of each floor that must be climbed after leaving the elevator. Technology is slow in coming to the Queens, one public computer is available. Four times during my 6 day stay, the key failed to work and I had to return to the desk and request a new one. On the last day I was told that placing the key in a handbag with a phone or a pocket with keys will deactivate the bar code on the key !!! (not sure where I was expected to carry the key !!!) The staff is helpful and enthusiastic, the doorman Ewan, is the most helpful and friendly hotel employee I have ever encountered. With his knowledge of schedules, places to dine, directions around the city, suggestions of places of interest in the city he made our stay a pleasure despite the disappointment with rooms !!!

Great deal on price but breakfast

Great deal on price but breakfast charged at 12.50 perperson in hotel or 3.85 at Weatherspoons or similar. Similarly car park charged at £7 per day of your visit, so they claw a bit back. Excellent rooms, decor very old world with statues and chandeliers and paintings of princes and queens. Good dining in Kings quarter (luxury rooms - modern building). A winner for my taste.
