Not for women traveling alone

Well, I waited too long to get a rez and ended up here. Definitely off the beaten path, in an industrial part of town. The carpet in my room was dirty and had not been vacuumed. The bathroom was decrepit although seemed clean. I did not walk barefoot. Also, the location was bad for women travelers - nowhere to eat, except the pub at the hotel. Seems like a place for visitors (men) from Africa and the Middle East, which also made me a little uncomfortable as a woman traveling alone. Sorry of that offends anyone.. not for females traveling alone I would say.

Never again

Firstly after reading the reviews I rang up to cancel the hotel as I didn't look before hand, they told me I could only cancel through who I booked it with, been as this was a hassle I decided to stay and they offered to give me the best room 135... When we arrived the staff were so miserable no smiles or didn't even tell us which level our floor was on after around 15 minutes of going up and down lifts we found our room, even though this happened to be the 'best' room the shower was mouldy and didn't smell nice at all, the lamp didn't work and there were loads of hairs on the carpet, after we checked out the lady decided to continue to speak on the phone the whole time we were being dealt with, I feel so undervalued as a customer I really would like my money back im disgusted.

Beautiful building needing millions spent on it

Parked easily enough and checked in by two lovely reception staff. First room was not suitable with mouldy bathroom and no handle to turn the shower on. Second room was better, the shower handle fell off in my hand but was usable. Housekeeping need to dust after making the bed. Free breakfast given. Not on the breakfast list so had to wait for confirmation from reception. Basic self service which was ok. Third room was cleaner and better decorated but had basic issues of ill fitting toilet seat, no toilet roll holder, no soap and needed a good hoovering. Staff were excellent and the hotel must be doing something right as the brides mother was praising the wedding which she stated was faultless. Building is beautiful but needs millions spent on it.

Awful experience

Had to change rooms as first room was dirty and plaster coming of walls, no TV lead. Second room had no hot water in the evening or in the morning, demanded full refund, staff not that helpful. Hotel is situated in a really bad area, didn't feel safe walking out.

Ok for just staying over a couple of nights.

The gentleman who checked us in was very pleasant and helpful. We wanted a shower before we went out, but no hot water! Tried again when we got back, still no joy, next morning, still no joy! I phoned reception and again was spoken to by the same gentleman who checked us in and the water was sorted. The floors hadn't been vacuumed, and there was 3 pieces of chewing gum stuck to the bathroom floor with hair matted in one of the pieces, and the shower curtain could of done with a wash as it was a bit grimy and it stank! The bed linen and the towels were immaculate!

Not for everyone

The hotel is being re-furbished and the facilities newly provided in the rooms need to be reviewed, as some are not user friendly. The hotel lacks atmosphere and is rather austere but its location is good for my needs when I visit Birmingham. The rooms are quite small but overall I think the price is about right and the staff are always very helpful and polite. I expect to use it again.

Dining tip: In Hotel

Dining facilities in the hotel are limited and depend on availability of staff. Dining out means a short drive to a more central location to find restaurants.

Inside does not match the outside

First impressions of the beautiful building from the outside, do not match the prettiness of the inside. The room was small, dark and dull. There were no main lights, only three little lamps to give of a slight shine of light! It definitely needs brightening up, maybe with some coloured curtains or cushions, or maybe a picture - something to add to the bare, mouldy walls! Despite the bathroom being small, it was clean! However more toilet rolls need to be provided and after coming out of the cramped shower I found a screw on the floor, which someone could have easily trod on! I do not recommend this hotel, and at £60 a night it is definitely over priced.

Pay for cheap, get cheap. Want luxury? pay for luxury.

After reading various reviews after having booked the room, I was feeling anxious. Yes, the car park looks a bit scary/dingy (its a warehouse next door) but it was full of cars as nice as mine, and had a security hut. Not sure if it was manned overnight? Safety in numbers though..! Indoors, there were loads of people around of all types. Young people, families, tourists - all that jazz so it felt good. They're refurbing, and seem to be more than half way through, my room was clean, simple and fresh. NO COMPLAINTS! So all in all, I was very happy with it. Its everything you can ask for from a cheap hotel. I'd reccommend to my friends if they want to spend sub-£40 a night and get free parking included.
