Macdonalad Burlington, Birmingham, England

Nice stay. Nice rooms. Very nice staff. Comfy bed and convenient location. The only downside: the bar was really expensive and with a paltry selection too . I would save your drinking for the pubs that are local to the hotel. In particular I recommend the Wellington on Bennetts Hill. A great selection of decent beer at a fraction of the price of the hotel offerings.

Hotel was very nice and the staff was very helpful. Great location for our convention, close to many restaurant , shops and mall. The New Street train station was next door and easy to get to airport.

It's fine

It was fine.....yes if you look closely some of the paint could be touched up, and yes, another person on he desk would speed up check in and out.....but it is a nice comfortable hotel, well located, and a good price.

Better than you'd expect...

...for the price. Unless the hotel pays me money for staying in a 5 star place, it won't receive full marks. Given that premise, you will be able to better interpret my markings.

NOISY

Came back to hotel at 10pm to hear a disco beneath us. The noise continued till 1.30am. Staff did offer to upgrade us . Most inconvienient I would be careful about the Room I booked if I stayed here again.

Ideal for one night stay

Booked Macdonald Burlington for an overnight stay following a concert at the Town Hall. Great location next to New Street Station . Overall this once grand hotel seems a little tired and in need of a bit of tlc but for one night it was ideal. Room was adequate, with double bed that did seem on the small side, but very large bathroom with good shower and bath. Furnishings were a little dated but in keeping with the rest of the hotel. Our deal did not include breakfast but there are plenty of eateries around and this did not matter. Would happily stay again for a short break but feel it lacks the wow factor that many hotels have managed to create now.

Burlington - fantastic stay!

This hotel was nice to stay at. Really central, really easy to get from Birmingham Moor Street and New Street stations and also very near to the Bullring and the Mailbox! Perfect for what I went to Birmingham for!!! The staff were really friendly and helpful and gave me loads of info on the local area. The only bad bit for me was the coughing man in the room next door in the middle of the night, the walls are obviously paper thin. Other than that a big thumbs up.

poor display

On attending the hotel we were happy with the location especially as we were there for a new years break and to shop at the good stores within the centre. The hotel itself is right within a short walk of the bull ring shopping mall and the mailbox / Broad street for nightly entertainment. That is one of two positives, the other being the staff at the venue who were happy and polite at all times. However there were a few negatives. Some of which being, the hotel cleaning standards leave much to be desired. The hallways were covered in dust with the carpets having to be taped down in certain areas. A dream venue for accident insurance firms. The room itself was a good size but again it was worn and reminded me of a Wetherspoons pub area with the faded stained carpets and furniture. The couch in the room was covered in stains and would be better off disposed of. It is a shame as the hotel is old and could be that much better with a touch up here and there. The room istelf had food stains on the carpet and on entering the bathroom, had cup rings on the side of the bath. These were visible on entering the room. The shower was on it's last legs with the frame coming away. The venue does offer a discounted rate off the NCP next door, but again for three days this still cost 23 pounds. That could have been put towards another 4/5 star hotel that does offer parking. I would give this a strong 3/4 out of ten, for the location and staff alone. Until I see the hotel has had an extensive make over for the prices charged, I would strongly advise not to stay there unless you have been given a great deal. Steve from Surrey.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

You are a 5 minute walk to the mailbox complex that has a number of bars, shops and food venues of all tastes. There are cocktail bars that are good value and quite chique.
