Another good Britannia experience
Second time staying at a Britannia Hotel, and another pleasant stay. Obviously at £20 a night its not the hilton but it's nice for what you do get. Comfy bed, basic but otherwise clean room and helpful staff. My one complaint would have been that I asked for a non smoking single room but due to running out of non smoking rooms they instead moved me to a rather large smoking double. I didn't find this to be an issue at all and my upgraded room was lovely and the smell of smoke wasn't especially a problem. They did their best in the circumstances and I was happy with the solution. The location is brilliant, a mere 2 minute walk from new street station, and very close to all local shops and immenities - being across the road from a cash machine and mcdonalds were 2 big bonuses for me :) It was also only a ten minute walk from where I was working and the staff on reception were very useful in trying to direct me to this location. All in all it was exactly what you would expect from a budget hotel in the CITY CENTRE and those giving bad reviews obviously don't appreciate likewise hotels are charging £50+ (travelodge et al) So it is a good deal. Would certainly stay again if I am ever in Birmingham

Not a crime scene as some would think, but a mystery.
I was quite anxious about my stay due to the reviews I had read at various sites, and my expectations were low. However when I reached the hotel,I was surprised as to how I was proven wrong. The staff were friendly and the rooms were practical for my day stay in Birmingham. The hotel is located in the city center and the rail stations were nearby. The place did have an aged look which made it appear that the decor was installed in the 1950's.It certainly smelt odd at various places in the hotel( hallways and lifts). There was no fridge in my room. The only down side was the busker in the street who kept playing music which disturbed my sleep in the early morning. There was also a man who passed water into the middle of the alley way of the hotel in plain sight.Shameless, dirty man!Birmingham city council ought to install free toilets in the city center so that such people don't pass water in public and in the walkways, especially the way he did. Otherwise the hotel was nice, and a Chinese buffet was just across the hotel.I would definitely stay again and I would love to book this hotel for a friend without them knowing what they were getting into. This place is an adventure.

Not so good
Hotel was a great location but rooms was very dull and old looking could do with upgrading. Very dull lighting and the walls are like paper thin as I didn't get to sleep untill 4.30am for the noise the showers had no pressure on them the only thing this hotel has going for it is the location the cleanleness of the rooms and very nice and polite staff

attending an event
We had a comfortable sleep but we had to report a very loud plumbing noise above our room. We were told a duty manager would come to inspect though he did not appear and we had to leave for our event. We also felt felt the hotel could have done with a bit upgrading and the wallpaper was hanging of the wall.

Very good value for money for
Very good value for money for a hotel which is right in the centre of the city and only a couple of minutes walk from New Street train station. I did not have any meals at the hotel but there are plenty of coffee shops, cafes and restaurants nearby. Also very handy for department stores and shops.

Good showers (plenty of hot water, and great water pressure), great location, good staff. The room was a bit dark, even in the daytime (a standing lamp in the corner would have helped) but other than that it's a great place to stay. Does what it says on the tin.
