Short trip to Aberdeen for family wedding

We flew to Aberdeen for a family wedding and wanted a comfortable hotel to stay in that would turn our long weekend into a treat. We booked this on the internet to obtain the best deal, and were not disappointed. Our room was in the original part of the hotel with period features (which we love) together with modern decor..The ensuite bathroom was nicely appointed too. Although the hotel is on a fairly busy road, it is set well back and our room was very quiet, enabling us to get good quality sleep. The staff were attentive, polite and pleasant. Breakfast was a good spread with plenty of choice. I would take issue with their description of 'creamy scrambled egg' that was supposed to come with my smoked salmon - it was effectively dry omelette that had been folded up to fit the standard small ring mould. Not scrambled egg at all. I checked all other plates passing us by over 2 days, and each time it was the same, so not just a 'one-off'. The bar had a great ambience in the evening, with blue lighting and comfy chairs and sofas. It was very popular and had a good atmosphere. The cocktail list was interesting - enjoyed a few! Next to the bar is a wine cellar on view behind glass and an immense fabulous selection of whiskies, some very old and rare looking. All nicely displayed as quite a feature. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone considering it and would stay there again if the occasion arose.

Shopping tip: Long walk from hotel

We walked for 30 mins and only got as far as the grotty end of Aberdeen shops. Take a taxi if you do not have a car. The hotel said 15mins walk, which it was if you walked briskly, but the next 10-15 mins only took us through basic mundane shopping area, so didn't see anything nice before we had to walk all the way back again (time restraint). It would have been helpful if staff had said best to take taxi or given us bus info, and told us where to ask to be taken to.
