the sands hotel in turks and caicos

I took pics of the beds it was pitiful they all need to be replaced it was so uncomfortable they hung so low it touches the floor..the food and drinks are soooo insane expensive its cheaper to drink at the most expensive place in the usa ...the pillows are also bad so if you are going in the hope of good sleep forget it...also booking through the hotel is more expensive than booking online site

Mixed Experience

Positives: * Property's location is ideal and beach is perfect * Grounds are very well maintained Negatives: * Rooms can use an upgrade; finishes are dated * Check-in experience can be improved; strict 3PM check-in * Service by Hemingway restaurant staff could be improved - smile would be nice * Concierge did not offer additional suggestions on restaurants, etc - only answered specific questions In summary, loved the beach so will definitely return to Grace Bay but not to The Sands

Family vacation

We stayed in a two bedroom suite. The rooms were great and the kitchen had almost everything we needed to prepare our own meals. The full size washer and dryer were a great addition as well. The staff were friendly and housekeeping was great. We loved the landscaping and the beautiful white sand beach. Even when the resort was full, there was still a private feel to the resort. Definitely plan on returning

might be helpful to rent a car for a few days as taxis are needed for getting to many restaurants and they an be pricey and they add up.

Great Experience

We stayed for eight nights, the only drawback is that there was only one restaurant on the property that was very expensive, $48 for chicken pene pasta. You'll be lucky to get in during high season, reservations required. They have a shuttle to the local grocery store that runs twice a week for $10 and they wait 45 min while you shop. Since it's 'condo' living we opted to pay $140 for groceries for 8 days instead of $50 a meal for two people at 3x a day that would have added up to about $1200 on food alone. Otherwise, the ocean view was great and all non-motorized sports are complimentary including: 14' ca*amaran, snorkel, sea ka*ak, and bicycles. They also have scooters that you can rent. overall two thumbs up

Perfect location but apartment needs updates

Location is perfect. Right at the wide beach and the garden is beautiful. Our apartment ( 6201 ) was not up to date though. Ocean view but actually the furthest location away from the beach. Rooms are nice size and the screened balcony was big. Tiles were worn and the appliances old. Right next to the parking lot so there were noise from cars, deliveries and garbage collection. The bicycles free of charge but in really terrible condition. Hemingways restaurant right at the beach but only average and not cheap. Go to bay bistro next door which is much better but also even more expensive. Overall nice but too expensive.

Perfect for us

Sands turned out to be the absolute perfect choice for our three generation travelling party. The kid-friendly atmosphere and presence of other families was great for my 11 year old,, my mother loved the great screened porch, easy access to the beach, and friendly, helpful staff, and my sister and I were in love with the clear clear water, great weather and were happy we didn't have to deal with the screaming masses of kids you encounter at some family resorts. The beach is everything you hear--perfect! Staff was GREAT, although the wait staff at Hemingway's could have taken some smiling lessons. Our three bedroom ocean view actually had a lovely view of the ocean, was roomy and clean. Only complaint is that two of the rooms open out to the sometimes noisy hallway, and beds could have been more comfortable. The main areas of the unit were absolutely perfect. We would definitely come again to Sands! Restaurants were as advertised---a bit expensive, but ok. We liked Da Conch shack and Somewhere best. Overall, we loved TCI, but it's not a place to go searching for cultural diversions. If uncrowded sand, surf, and Caribbean relaxation is what you are looking for, it's right up there.

We rented a car for the entire week----next time I think we will only get one for a day or two. You can drive the whole island in an easy afternoon and it's really not necessary to have a car every day.
