Cave Getaway
Bruce Apr 29, 2009
When driving through the village, on our way to the Gamirasu Cave hotel, my wife and I looked at each other with concern. The ... village is a bit "rustic" compared to the neighboring towns and villages. Fortunately, our fears were put to rest, once we approached the Hotel, and saw the property! Gamirasu is slightly remote, but well worth the effort to get there, and quite nicely situated in relation to the places you will want to visit! The owner and his staff are a delight, and make you feel very warm and welcome; like family! Meals are offered in the dining room nightly from 7PM-10:30 PM, and are a set menu which is decided by the chef on a daily basis; the cost for this 4 course meal is 18 Euro per person. The food was wonderful, and if you have special needs, or do not like what is offered on the suggested menu, they will accommodate your needs. We found the food was one of the highlights of our trip, and gave us a great feeling for the regional cuisine. The staff were more than helpful, providing us with information about the area, and helping us decide what to see and do while we were there. There are guided trips available, but I would suggest doing things at your own pace. There are lots of great places to hike and explore, as well as shopping for local pottery and crafts if you are so inclined. And did I mention the local wine?, it is among the best in Turkey! Make sure you visit the local winery early in the morning before the tour busses arrive so you can stock up at a mere 10 Lira per bottle. Gamirasu presently has about 28 rooms, which are quite nicely appointed for the price. I would definitely rate the experience a 4 Star hotel at a 3 Star price. About half of the rooms are in caves, the other half are in buildings adjacent to caves. While we were there, they were literally carving 2 more rooms out of the nearby caves--it was quite spectacular to watch. Gamirasu is a once in a lifetime experience that I would highly recommend!

Lovely Cave Hotel
Sayaka Nov 23, 2007
The hotel is located in a very lovely small village, 10km South of Urgup. If you request, the hotel will provide ... transportation to and from Urgup during business hours(but do not expect a nice van). Dinner at the restaurant, though it was a bit pricy, was excellent, and staff were very friendly! The only problem was that the heating system in my room was not working properly so that it was super cold. I would stay at this hotel again.

Panorama Cafe is wondeful find at the top of a hill in urgup with stunning views of the valley, modestly priced food and a friendly owner who will introduce you to his family and give you a taste of turkish life. Easy to get to if you stay in downtown urgup, a cab ride away from Gamirasu cave hotel

Gorgeous location, wonderful staff
Linda Yu-Ning Sep 6, 2007
The Gamirasu Cave Hotel is unlike anything I could have ever imagined. The hotel is dug into caves in the Capidoccia region ... of central turkey. It is a wonderful change from the hectic pace of Istanbul, with beautiful rooms, food and scenery. The staff is wonderful and helpful (I left my purse in a cab and they managed to find it with two phone calls!) The hotel is a bit far from Urgup (the largest nearby town), but it is a nice place to relax after a busy day of sightseeing the region
