Friendly hotel in Sultanahmet

Staff is very friendly and helpful Location is good for first time english speaking visitors to Istanbul because of the proximity to tourist sites, although if/when we go back would probably prefer to stay in a different neighborhood Good free breakfast in the morning Free wifi Was a little difficult to find on our own the first day Overall, would recommend to first time visitors to Istanbul and we would stay again if we were going to stay in Sultanahmet

perfect.. except

we stayed in one of the ground floor suites. the staff, location, breakfast, cleanness, were all pretty good. i think i got my money worth, especially we (my wife and myself) did not stay in the room except for sleeping. however, the poor buffet lady was doing everything to provide breakfast for the guests with no help. cleaning, preparing food, washing dishes, supplying the buffet. some guest were even helping her with cleaning their own tables.

Simple but convenient

The hotel is "no frills" but it has everything you need-I had a twin bed and small bathroom. The best part of the hotel was the rooftop terrace where you have breakfast--great view and decent food.

Time-saving tip: In Hotel

If you want to save yourself the hassles of dealing with corrupt taxi drivers, consider emailing the hotel for an private airport transfer. For 45 Euros (per vehicle) roundtrip, it is worth it (especially if you have 2-3 people). I was a solo traveler but it saved me time and stress after a long flight.

Cozy and friendly hotel

Checked in end dec2011 .its a small cozy hotel and only 5minutes away from the great attractions of Istanbul like the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, topkapi museum. Breakfast was on the top terrace, inviting, delicious and with variety. Staff courteous and helpful and location gave you a lot of local flavor being in the old city neighbourhood and lanes. Rooms and amenities size was small but the attitude of the staff and managers compensated for that. We had a great stay.

Sultanamet offers you the flavor of istanbul city and most big attractions are near this spot including an efficient tram service and boat pier. The walking does you good and acquaints you with the neighbourhood.

Turkish experience

Tash Konak is a small hotel; don't expect the same conditions as you would from Hilton Hotel for example. But the building itself is a historical one; there is no room for anything else. Rooms are small and old, but the location is definitely rewarding. The staff is very friendly, as most Turks are. Breakfasts are absolutely great. The view from the hotel is almost divine. And if you visit the hotel during warm weather season – you will love the small, romantic garden patio they have. After tree trips to Turkey and experience with at least 7 hotels, Tash Konak is definitely a place we will be back.

Lovely Boutique Hotel

First time in Turkey. GREAT LOCATION! Sultan Ahmet area. That is all you need to say if you get disoriented and Turks readily will point you in the right direction. So be sure to orient yourself to the fact that the Blue Mosque is right around the corner from the Task Konak and anytime you see the Hippodrome or Aya Sophia you are not far away. Lovely little hotel - thankfully not glitzy like Abu Dhabi. Much better - totally adorable. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly: They contacted my friend's hotel for me and then gave me detailed walking directions so I could easily find her hotel... and I didn't get lost! I never had any noise problems like others mentioned and I was right by the stairway. There was a TV in the room, but I never turned it on. I did borrow a book from the stacks of them downstairs and read some in the evening as I usually do before sleeping. There are many titles in several languages. If that is how you fall asleep, then you'll find something to do the trick. Or bring your own and leave it for others when you're done! The breakfast was much better than anticipated: Definitely go outside and enjoy the morning breeze as you look out over the Marmara sea enjoying your scrambled eggs, assortment of breads, cereals, honey, cheeses, watermelon and hot cafe au lait. Hearing what friends had on their comp breakfast, I definitely rec Tash Konak. Plus, there is an English speaking lady who 'works' at the breakfast and chats about her life as an ex-pat in Turkey. Traveling as a single, that 15 minute morning conversation was refreshing. There were nice city maps on sale in their lobby in numerous languages and that was really helpful. Another nice extra was the fact they stored my luggage for free after my checkout because I had a very late flight out. Then I used their friendly airport service to return to the airport - an excellent end to an excellent stay.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Use the city trams. They are easy once you try it. The nearest stop in Sultan Ahmet is near the Aya Safia/Hippodrome park area. Get your token at a machine near the tram stop. This is the trickiest bit because you have to look for the token dispensers - they are often across the street from the tram stop/platform or sometimes up the street a little ways from the entrance to the tram platform. To my untrained American eye, they looked like pay telephones without the phone handset. If you don't see a line of people, ask someone. There is usually a person at the entrance to the tram platform where people put their tokens into the turnstyle. Show your money and shrug your hands open in the universal question of where if he doesn't understand your spoken question. Since all the trams/trains/boats do NOT take the same token, it is recommended NOT to buy a lot in advance. When heading back to the hotel all you need to do is look at the tram line signs, or ask for help to Sultan Ahmet. Always remember that you are going to SULTAN AHMET and it will be fine. Caveat - trams get really full at rush hour time.

A nice hotel in Sultanahmet

Hotel Tashkonak is a nice small hotel in Sultanahmet. It is situated very close to all the major sights of Istanbul. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Our room was rather small, but it was not a problem for us. The view from the terrace, where breakfast is served, is wonderful. The free wi-fi connection was not working in our room (we were on the third floor). Overall Tashkonak is good value for money and I would recommend it if you travel on a budget.

Wonderful Hotel, Amazing Price

The hotel was absolutely wonderful. Our room was large and spotless, with air conditioning (necessary for Turkish summers!). The terrace outside was a great place to relax during the afternoon and evening, and the breakfast in the morning was delicious and there was a great view from the dining room where it's served. Everyone who worked for the hotel was always friendly and helpful - they even let us stay in our room an hour later than check-out time when we needed to. The location is great - a few minutes from the Blue Mosque, and only a 15 minute walk from the Grand Bazaar (the site that's probably the farthest away). It was incredibly affordable, especially for its location. I only wish we had printed out a map of its location before we went - it's tucked on a back side street, which means it's quiet at night, but we had a little trouble finding it the first time.
