great small hotel right in the centre of Old Istanbul

Very comfortable room, very helpful reception staff, in quiet back street within easy walking distance of main historical attractions and good value restaurants. View from roof terrace overlooking Bosphorus and Blue Mosque is magical.

Hotel Room fit for a Sultan

My wife and I stayed for 5 mights - first time in Turkey - hotel lived up to other people's reviews. I often wonder if these reviews are real - well, its 7th June, 6.40pm and i'm at my desk and its pouring down with rain outside! We left Istanbul at 30 degrees. The location of this hotel is excellent, its in the quieter, quainter, part of Sultan Ahmet - you can walk to everything (take decent footwear due to hilly, cobbled streets) and using short-cuts, 5 (yes 5) minutes from entrance of Haiga Sofia and Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace and Islamic Art Museum and Arista Bazar. Service was incredible - they told us everything we wanted to know and more - no pressure to tip either. We booked two months in advance but the week before we booked, it was 10% cheaper. They do Airport Transfers also, cheaper than taxi. The view from our room was amazing, the Bosporus River. Also, don't be worried about call to prayer, we are Muslim and unless you have the window open, you can't hear it (we couldn't). The roof terrace is nice, small but nice. Take your own food up there (inc breakfast). As the hotel has 15 rooms, its not that big. Breakfast is OK if you like salami etc and cereal and coffee and cheeses and bread (all you can eat). The omelette made upon request is a nice touch. The floor of the bathroom is also heated which strangely is a nice thing to have in summer. Please do lots of research before travelling and booking because there are many, many hotels in the vicinity so others could be the same or worse or better. We'd probably stay there again...

Sultan Saba Hotel

Sultan Saba Hotel The hotel is conveniently located near the main sites and a short walk to the tram to explore the rest of the city. Due to its proximity to the tourist sites the area is quite noisy and the room’s are not well sound proofed. Noise from other guests did bother us from time to time, especially the slamming of doors. The breakfast was just ok, nothing was fresh it was all quite processed. There was no change in the breakfast the 5 mornings we spent at the hotel. The staff at the hotel were very friendly however when challenged with questions on where to eat for example they were not knowledgeable and as a result were rather unhelpful. Their default response was to recommend a tour or a restaurant where the hotel obviously got a kick back. When we asked to book the shuttle bus to the hotel the staff said they could book for us for TL 35 so we simply went next door and booked it for TL 25. The rooms are very nice and clean, fresh towels every day. We had a very small ‘executive room’. The hotel is tricky to find, the hotel website needs to be updated to provide exact directions perhaps based on landmarks as street signs are hard to find down the back streets. We booked using a 30% off deal and I would not have been too satisfied if we had paid the full price.

Nightlife tip: Long walk from hotel

Catch the tram or walk over Galata Bridge, walk up towards the Galata Tower. Find a roof top bar and enjoy the fantastic view over the Golden Horn.
