Charming boutique hotel gets guests cooking
This small hotel is a good base from which to explore one of Istanbul's most historic areas. The Sarnic is just minutes away from the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar. The Mosaic Museum and the Basilica Cistern are also within walking distance of the hotel. The Sarnic's building, a mansion constructed in 1915, was transformed into a hotel in 1999. A complete renovation in January 2010 updated floors, curtains, televisions, showers, mattresses, and beds.
Highlights
- Housed in a mansion built in 1915
- Turkish cooking class offered in the hotel kitchen
- Floors, furniture, and other details renovated in January 2010
- Complimentary Wi-Fi and Turkish Delight
Rooms
The former mansion's 21 rooms are decorated with traditional patterns and furniture. Amenities include televisions with international channels, en-suite bathrooms, and air conditioning. Guests, weary from a day of touring or business, enjoy a complimentary treat of Turkish Delight.
Features
Guests interested in learning to cook Turkish food should reserve a spot in the hotel's cooking class. Classes -- taught in the hotel kitchen -- are limited to 10 students. Students cook a five-course meal together then enjoy the food from the comfort of the hotel's rooftop restaurant. Guests who want to try their new cooking skills at home can buy some of the ingredients at the nearby spice market.
The restaurant also serves dinner each night. The menu focuses on Ottoman and classic Turkish cuisine. Guests can sit inside or enjoy food, drinks, and a water pipe on the terrace.
The Sarnic is named for a fifth-century Byzantine cistern that sits just behind the hotel.

Good location, poor staff
I stayed at the Sarnic with my boyfriend for 4 nights. The location is wonderful as it is right next to the blue mosque and next to everything in the old town. A cute little park is located right down the street too which you can walk through to get to the water. Very close to the Grand Bazaar and Spice market. Also easy trip to the Asia side, just a 30 Lira cab ride. We were placed in the premier part of the hotel for one night which was great, but asked to move for the remaining three nights which was a hassle. When we asked why we were put into this position, the 'concierge' if you could even call him that was extremely rude and unhelpful. He told us that the reason we had to switch because in the room we previously book a women had been sick with a stomach bug. I told the man that this was poor service and a. he should not tell paying guests this about a room they are about to move to and b. that we would appreciate it if he could either let us stay in the first room or put is in a room where someone wasn't sick the day before. He was extremely rude to us and told us basically there was nothing he could do as well as failing to make us feel comfortable for our stay. The rest of the weekend we felt awkward walking into the hotel lobby while he and his staffed starred at us without uttering a word. Aside from this and the EXTREMELY uncomfortable mattress in the second room (the first one was great!!) we had a great time and the hotel like I said is in a great location!

Awesome Place and Staff
I stayed at Sarnic Hotel with my family for 4 nights and had a really good experience at the place. It is small private kind of a hotel where the staff is super friendly and the rooms are nice and clean. The breakfast is amazing with very large selection of items and the their restaurant chef is amazing made some good food. The best thing about the hotel is that everything is at walking distance. Blue Mosque is literally across the street. You can access all the historical place really easily from this hotel. All in all i would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Good base hotel for exploring Istanbul
Small but adequate rooms in great section of town. Very friendly staff. We didn't spend any time in the room other than to sleep so it was just what we needed. Hotel staff helped us with tours. Breakfast was quite good. Istanbul is all about getting out and around town so this suited our needs quite well. Nothing fancy but a decent value overall. Very nice shuttle service to/from the airport. Hotel responded to our advance email about late arrival which was appreciated.

Wonderful Istanbul
Sarnic Boutique Hotel was our "home" in Istanbul as we spent seven nights there---long enough to become acquainted with all of the staff. Location is absolutely ideal---10 minutes to the Blue Mosque----great neighborhood with lots to see and do. The hotel staff is terrific and willing to help any way they can. Our room was on the fourth floor of the old part of the hotel so was a bit of a climb(!); shower was dinky but had unlimited hot water with great pressure; air conditioning was great; breakfast was generous (included in room rate); the roof top restaurant was a disappointment. Two restaurants on the street were super---really recommend both. The location of the Sarnic was perfect; that alone cancels the negatives. Next trip to Istanbul we will ask to be in the new portion of the hotel---what luxury: an elevator!!!!!!

Sightseeing tip:
Not Applicable
No tour guide needed for Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia or Topkapi Palace as placards at sites are very informative. Hit major sites later in the day----no lines as the cruise ship and tour groups hit the sites early in the day. Forget taxis---traffic is so bad you can walk faster.

i think there must be better than this
The sarnic hotel is a nice hotel in many ways. When we arrived so early we were kindly told we could leave our bags by the reception staff. This was the nicest reception person but more often there were people at the desk who were not as nice as him. The room was very nice but the bed was very, very hard for a hotel bed. I did not like that bed. The bathroom was nice but the shower stall was extremely small. Really. It was too small! I really liked the breakfast! There were lots of good things to eat there, yogurt with honey, hard boiled eggs, cheeses, fruit, breads and good coffee. The staff there were very nice. The location was excellent! Extremely close to all of the popular sites! Now, here is my beef witht he sarnic hotel. One night we had to go to a restaurant that required reservations. Fine. I tried to call with the hotel phone but it didn't work. I couldn't reach the outside line. We were charged 13 lira!! That is crazy. So, in summary, I would say it is a great hotel is you don't mind a really hard bed and a tiny shower and so-so reception guys.

Delightful place with character
Walking distance to nearly all attractions in Istanbul (we easily walked to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar, Archetecture and Islamic Art museums, Hippodrome, restaurants... and one of our people has a bad knee). GREAT cistern/art gallery available free. Sweet, helpful staff with an attention to making foreigners comfortable. We had a room in the "old section" of the hotel and our friends were in the "new section." Our room was roomy and nice, their room was a little smaller but very pretty and "boutique." Breakfast did have hot dishes (I had read online it didn't) and there is a nice rooftop restaurant and bar with a great view of the Blue Mosque. This is not a standard business/luxury hotel, but has a taste of local flavor without sacrificing comfort. We had a wonderful stay.

Wonderful find!
This boutique hotel is a close walk to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, and the metro. We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast every morning was good. The rooms were small, but clean.

A lot of troubles
The only positive thing was the location but you can find many others hotel in that area. The air conditioning was bad with air contaminated it was impossible to breath, 1st floor, noisy. Elevator to terrace broken the 2 days I was there, one afternoon with no water in the bathroom, incorrect charge in my account, only one reception person very friendly, nothing more.
