19th-century school building gets top grades as a small hotel

location is key
great location for sightseing, but with that comes an amount of street noise that may not be OK if your close to the street. It seemed to get quieter around 11pm, BUT this was off season and I think I may have had to move my room if the city was busier. if you plan on being a night owl maybe not an issue - though its a little way from the night spots. Staff was helpful and service was good, but feel like i didnt always get good local info from them in terms of maximizing my value on tours/activities. I will cautiously recommend.

beware of the room that you get
We loved the breakfast... the service... the cleanliness of the room. However... we were put on a room that faces a very busy street and it was difficult to sleep a couple of nights due to the noise. Unfortunately... there is no way of telling this at the time of the booking. I just assumed that booking on a 4 star hotel will not have that problem.

Ask the hotel for suggestions for food. I found them useful. However... the tours that they suggested were not very good: I think it is a problem of Istanbul in general.

Nice clean hotel; friendly, helpful staff and absolutely the most convenient location in the Old City. Hotel front door opens to the west outer wall of the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace is 1 1/2 blocks to the left and the Blue Mosque is 1 1/2 blocks to the right. And the Basilica Cistern is 1 block behind the hotel. Hotel is midway between two tramway stops (Gulhane & Sultanahmet). Numerous restaurants within very, easy walking distance. There is no better location is Istanbul's Old City! Also has cold A/C and free WiFi.

Loved it!
WITHOUT KIDS: we loved our stay. it was the first time for us to travel without kids, so if i am looking at it from a point of two adults being on a romantic gateway: the location is just perfect, next to hagia sophia and in walking distance to major sites, shops, cafes and restaurants. hotel is very nice, with cozy terrace and cute views. our room was a bit smaller, but just big enough for two people and nice and tidy. our windows were facing the street, but we had no problems with the noise at all. the range for breakfast was not impressive, but ok. if the breakfast is not included in the room rate, you might be better off walking somewhere and get more decent coffee and some typical turkish pastry there. WITH KIDS: if you plan to travel with small kids, using stroller etc, beware there are always stairs you need to take - at the entrance, going to restaurant or bar, getting to the room... the range of food (menu or buffet) is not what i would personally consider kids friendly. (but again, that is just my personal opinion, because being a mum of preschooler and infant, i try to choose healthier options with less salt and no spices). there was a high chair in the restaurant. the street to access the hotel is made of cobble stones and is very bumpy. overall we were very pleased with our stay, stuff were generally friendly and helpful, ambience great, so yes, we would stay there again!!!

Amazing location for the price
The hotel offered the perfect location for anyone interested in exploring the old city of Istanbul. The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rooms were rather small, but beautifully decorated and clean. The bathroom was luxurious. We highly recommend this hotel.

great location for a charming hotel
This is a charming hotel located right next to the Topkapi palace and the Hagia Sofia museum and on the tram line as well. What makes it perfect is that somehow the side street of the hotel is so very quiet that you hear nothing of the roaring of the city. The terrace overlooks the domes of the Cafa Aga cafe and courtyard where you can see artisans making their pottery and ceramics. There is now a restaurant at the hotel. it is a little pricy, but excellent food and service. Speaking of service, our room was clean and newly renovated and the hotel staff was very helpful with every request. I am suggesting that all my friends make this their hotel in Istambul.

4 Days in Istanbul
The Ottoman Hotel Imperial is perfectly located just in front of Ag. Sofia which is just across the way from the Blue Mosque and the Hippodrome and a very short walk to both Topkapi and the Grand Bazar, and across the street from the Basilica Cistern which you DO NOT want to miss. The tram also runs right by the hotel. The hotel itself is quite well appointed. The service was impeccable with the staff paying close attention to the guests' every need. There are, however, two classes of rooms. The major difference is that some are accessed by elevator while others require a climb. Don't forget, staying in any of the "old cities'" hotels & B&B will present you with steps quite often. DO: Take the tram when you can. Taxis are a bit expensive and the tram gets close to most everything you'll want to see/experience. DO: Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes. Dress for the weather; the summers are going to be blistering. DO: Search out the Khorasani Restaurant. www.khorasanirestaurant.com and enjoy your meals. DON'T: Take the hop-on hop-off tour. A total waste of money where most of the 60+ points of interest were "over there" or "behind there" and there were only 5 or 6 stops half of which were in the middle of no where!

This hotel has the best possible
This hotel has the best possible location in Istanbul for seeing the main sights and has easy access to the aiport and the rest of the city as the tram stop is only about five minutes walk away. The hotel itself is of a good standard, spotlessly clean and offers a varied buffet at breaksfast which makes for a great start to the day. I would recommend this hotel to anybody looking for good value in a convenient location.

Couldn't be better for the price!
This is a great hotel for the price. The location is brilliant: it's within five minutes of the Agia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern (a really cool attraction), and all the docks at Eminonu (I wasn't thrilled with the over-long Bosphorus tour, but a quick jaunt to Üsküdar was way fun). The rooms are quite attractive. The employees are incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included with my rate, and it was really good. Maybe three small problems: one, I asked for a quiet room and instead got one on the main road. The hotel's double-paned windows, though, made the noise almost inaudible. Second, there's only one computer available for visitors. Third, because this is a touristy area, it's hard to find inexpensive, non-touristy restaurants. Obviously none of these problems should deter you, though, from staying here.

Short walk from hotel
Ferries leave the dock at Eminonu every twenty minutes to Üsküdar, a fun little city on the Asian side of Istanbul. Highly recommended for a fun jaunt and a respite from the overly-touristy Sultanahmet area.
