Very nice, very comfortable

Nice hotel, not too far from Sultanahmet sites. Close to the tram or about a twenty minute walk to sites. Small but nice ... pool. Friendly service. The hotel had lots of public space for meeting friends or waiting on groups. Small, but comfortable room with sitting area, adequate storage, fridge and good bed. Business center was useful for printing needs.

Great Hotel...Great Location!
E Sep 28, 2009
This hotel was great! The convenience to the tram can't be beat. You can be anywhere in the city for 1 Lira. There were a ... few breakfast spots around the hotel, but you had to look hard. If you want a good breakfast, take the tram to Sultanhamet (5 minutes away). Also, the free internet in the business center was helpful. The pool was great.

Nothing special....
Elmira Galimova Jul 20, 2009
This hotel was over rated. It doesn't earn "5 star" at all. First of all, hotel situated in the shopping area, right between ... all those noisy shops. My room was very small, made from roof or attic, because ceiling was too short and it was only one small window (30"/30") without any view and poor access. The bathroom door didn't close completely due to poor constraction. Shower sliding door was broken. Reception staff was okay, but it depends from the shift. Some of them were friendly, but some of them were not. There was some moments when I need to make a phone call from reception desk. But they kept telling me to go and make a phone call from my room (so that I won't bother them). Eventually at the end of my staying, they charged me $85 for about 8 phone calls max of 3-5 mins conversation. Overall, I am not recommending you to stay there.

Best of all was the hotel staff, they rock! Very courteous and extremely helpful, from booking reservations and tickets to ... just getting you a cab (that doesn't rip you off), there was always someone there to help you out. The hotel itself was very nice compared to similar hotels in the area. We got a great rate online with orbitz. The hotel was recently built so the rooms are new and clean, but still kind of small. The location is okay, just a few tram stations from all the old city sites. If you stay there tell [...] at the front desk the Sultan made it to Club Reina and it was awesome.

The hotel was very nice and clean. Rooms were in great condition and properly designed for the area (as in not cookie ... cutter). The front desk staff could have been more on target, but given the great value, I won't hold it against them. Only downside is the location on Laleli.

Excellent Location, Service, and Quality
Istanbul Vacation Jun 23, 2009
This was far and beyond what I expected going in. The hotel is 5 stars, with very clean comfortable rooms, excellent service, ... nice accomadations. The location can't be even described. You are in the middle of the old city a few steps away from the tram station. You are within a few minutes tram ride of all the famous sites in Istanbul, including the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazar, the ports at Eminonu, the Spice Bazar, Galata Tower, Istiqlal Street and Takseem Square. I was telling my wife after our 9 day trip that after going all around Istanbul I could not have found a better hotel or a better location than the Crown Plaza. I will definately stay there again. One final note as I read some other reviews talking about the internet service at the hotel, High Speed wireless internet is available in the rooms and the lobby at no extra charge. It worked without any problems for the 8 nights I stayed at the hotel.

I can't say enough about the Tram system in Istanbul. As taxis are very expensive and buses are slow due to massive trafic jams, the tram is the easiest most efficient cost efictive way of traveling around the city. It's very easy to learn and relatively cheap. A tram ride is 1.5 TL (about 1 U.S Dollar). A typical taxi ride is $15 U.S Dollar.

This 5 star hotel is truly a 5 star hotel. We could not have asked for better! The staff was very accomodating and helpful ... though there was a bit of language barrier since many staff members were not fluent in English. The location was superb, a 5 minute walk to the Grand Bazaar and a short taxi to any other major sites. The hotel's spa services were limited but had what I wanted: try the "hamam" treatment. I felt like a new person! The breakfast buffet was pleantiful and had one restaurant. However, I highly recommend exploring other areas for restaurants, such as those close to the water.

Beautiful, newly renovated hotel
Gloria B Mar 3, 2009
A newly renovated hotel that is close to all major attraactions, but far enough that one is not constantly bombarded by touts ... and tourist shops. The renovation is well done of a group of old, historic buildings that were cleverly joined for a large hotel complex. The standard rooms are well appointed, but are a bit small, and fine for a short stay. As we were staying for a week, we were upgraded to a deluxe room at no additional charge, and it was spacious and comfortable for a longer stay. Fourth floor rooms should be avoided as they are essentially in the attic, with sloping ceilings and the window nearly to the floor. The hotel staff is very attentive and helpful. Wireless internet is available in the rooms and there are computers available at no charge in the business center. A drawback is that breakfast is not included in the room price is an additional $20/day, which I did not take. Unfortunately the immediate area did not have any local places for coffee or a light breakfast and we had to ride the tram to Sultanahmet to get breakfast. This was a very enjoyable, high class hotel and truly looked exactly like the pictures on the websites, which is not always the case. The current promotional pricing is phenomenal for a hotel of this caliber and as the hotel becomes better established I would expect it to increase, so I'd suggest to book now!

GREAT HOTEL!
Rae Feb 21, 2009
The hotel entrance is a block down from the sign. It is a 5-star hotel; the concierge demonstrates this, but some of the ... staff were snobby. The bedding is great, but only a duvet cover w/ no flat sheet. The breakfast is 24¬pp w/out including it w/ the room. There are high-end shops @ the hotel & in the vicinity, as well as many eateries. The tram is very crowded & not on schedule, but cheap & close by. The hotel had a fitness room & pool, but it was under construction & inaccessible while we were there.

Go to the historic bizarre for the experience & real deals; better w/ cash! Be prepared to be very rude & say "NO!" to locals, who will harass you to try their restaurants, stores, taxis, guidance, etc. Take tissue w/ you EVERYWHERE, since ALL the potties are squatters w/ no tissue or soap, which you pay a small amount to use. Stay close to your fellow travelers, especially near Sofia; be careful of hustlers (their friendliness is a disguise). A woman must wear a long skirt & head wrap to enter the mosques.
