A renovated 19th century gem in Istanbul’s Old City
Located in the Sultanahmet district, also known as the Old City, the 48-room New Avicenna Hotel offers breezy, open, Mediterranean-style amenities in Istanbul. The hotel is a three-story complex made up of three different 19th century Ottoman buildings that were refurbished and transformed into a hotel in the 1990s. It was completely renovated and redecorated again in 2008. The buildings are connected with walkways that look down upon a beautiful Turkish garden. The décor is enhanced by using splendid fabrics with Ottoman influences. Some rooms have views of the sea from their own balconies. The hotel is just a short walk from such attractions as Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia Museum, and the Blue Mosque. The New Avicenna Hotel is also close to Ataturk International Airport. On the top floor of the hotel is the Sipsi restaurant which provides patrons with a superb outlook over the Marmara Sea. The hotel aims to provide traditional Turkish hospitality with an insight into the culture of Istanbul.Reasons to stay

Great location, good room and helpful staff - highly recommended
Had a really nice 7 night stay at Avicenna Hotel in April. The location of the hotel is excellent - only 5 mins walk from the Blue Mosque and 10 mins to most of the other main attractions and bazars. The rooms were nicely decorated and very clean. We were originally given a room on the bottom floor of the annex that was a little dark. Reception staff were really helpful and were able to offer us another room and moved our bags over. The breakfast offers a great variety of food to suit all tastes and the dining room was a nice relaxed place to start the day. Without exception the staff were very helpful and friendly. Many thanks to Avicenna for a lovely stay - we would definitely recommend this hotel.

good location
The location of this hotel was perfect. We had a lovely view of The Blue Mosque from our window. Hagia Sophia, Topkapi palace and Grand Bazaar all in walking distance. Many cafes and places to eat just seconds away and the sea couple minutes walk away. It was lovely and warm in the hotel which was good as we went in December and it was snowing. Room decor was good. The only let down was the breakfast, not my cup of tea. We ordered omlet but you had to pay extra for it. There wasnt much variety. Overall we had a good stay at the hotel and i would recommend it.

Great location. Walking distance to main attractions - Trams - Ferry - Restaurants - Shopping. Very friendly and helpful staff. Prompt action on our room request by email. Even got our Bus tickets done in a jiffy. Excellent breakfast on the roof-top bar/restaurant with great view. Hope to return soon to this little gem, behind Blue Mosque. Much appreciated.

Short walk from hotel
Up the road, behind the Blue Mosque (market place) is a covered restaurant, with live Turkish Music after 7pm, everyday. The musicians sing with Joy and Soul. You also get to see a short version of Sema - Whirling Dervish movements. Good food and great atmosphere. The locals patronise this place, a good sign.

Great location for the sights of istanbul
We were warmly greeted, and for a nominal sum upgraded to a large room with balcony overlooking the Bosphorus. The room was clean and service attentive. Only one complaint, and it upset my wife enormously! having traveled to over 100 counties and stayed in 1000's of hotels over the past 40 years, this is the first occasion ever that where tea making facilities are provided in the room, have we been charged per tea bag used (4TL). There was no evident indication that there was a charge.

Nicely decorated, nice staff, some room trade offs
We had a very nice stay! However, its a personal thing whether you like the Hotel. You will like it if you: - like the style (look at the photos) - love nicely and consistently designed interior - want to have drink or meal on on the restaurant terrace with a wonderful view over the Bosporus You won't like it if you: - insist on solid craftmanship of housebuilding (if yes, are you sure you will like Istanbul?) - don't like to change rooms in case you are not 100% satisfied. Some rooms don't have WiFi coverage. There are quiet and not so quiet rooms.

perfect, unfussy hotel.
Nothing was too much trouble from the word go, 'NO' is a word the staff do not even think of saying. Take your own teabags, fruit juices can be bought in local shop otherwise hotel charges for them- but you can't blame them when pennies matter. Ideal location for Blue Mosque, etc., we walked everywhere even to Taksim Square- 40 minutes but go via Galata Tower and your half way there.

get a entry ticket for Harem when getting ticket for Topkapi Park at ticket office - if you don't and want to go another time you will have to pay full price entry again.

Perfectly located in a fascinating city
Call ahead and have them arrange for the airport shuttle, half price of taxi and no great delay. Friendly and eager to help staff, were able to store luggage for early arrival and start our museum hopping and restaurant sampling in Istanbul. Breakfast was simple but adequate and was included to the rather reasonable room price. The only negative was the room size, which was very cramped, bath and shower tiny! However, clean , with free WiFi. The location more than made up for the cramped accommodations, waling distance from Aya Sofia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi, Grand Bazaar. Fun and safe to discover the old city Would recommend staying, but would consider the deluxe rooms for an additional 30 Euros/day if room comfort is important.

Good buys in leather goods and carpets. Fun if you can bargain. Depending on establishment you final price should be 1/3 to 1/2 of asking price

Will never do it again
The location is fantastic and the design as well, I was on honeymoon trip we need a room a king size bed 1st we shocked once we saw 2 beds besides one another so easily you can fall on the ground!! but the most things which upset me before departure is when the reception guy ask me to pay for extra charges for soft drink from mini bar which we didn't touch or use!!! and then start to cry if we didn't pay for it he will pay I told him it not my mistakes we never touch or use it, anyway I was to hurry to catch my plan I pay but I promise to never back again, the stuff was miserable.
