Great location, friendly staff

Hotel Agan has a great location in the heart of the Old City. It's within easy walking distance of all the big ticket items (Hagia Spophia, Topkapi, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, etc) and you can easily walk to transportation hubs like Eminonu to get to other parts of the city. As soon as we arrived the staff helped us with our bags and were very welcoming. They also helped us get an airport shuttle. The rooms are small but comfortable with A/C and en suite bathroom. There is a lively night time scene on the street below so you might have some noise to contend with. In general though this was never an issue for us, although we were on the 4th floor - lower floors might have a different opinion. They serve a nice breakfast buffet with juice, tea, coffee, bread, cold meat, eggs and lots of fruit choices. Also free wireless throughout the hotel. All in all we enjoyed our stay at Agan and would go back again. Would recommend for young couples on a budget.

There is a restaurant around the corner from Agan called Paşazade (in Erboy hotel) which serves Ottoman cuisine. It is excellent!

Great stay

The location was prime, its in the old city VERY near to all the major tourist parts of town and to the metro/ports. Its also in a "walking only" area full of restaurants and a warm environment but still accesbile by taxi/car. The rooms are a nice size, not fancy but not dingy. normal if anything leaning towards the nicer side. The staff were amazingly helpful. It was my first time in istanbul and they made sure to be very thurough and offered any aid they could. I even met a couple who were staying there and mentioned it was their 3rd time at Agan because they enjoyed it so much. Overall, this made the trip very enjoyable.

Excellent hotel! I highly recommend and will stay here in the future as well!

This is a fairly small hotel and the hallways are very narrow, but that's the worst I can say about Agan Hotel. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and really went out of their way to take care of me and make me feel like I am part of their family. That goes for the waiter staff, the front desk, even the housekeeping staff. In terms of location, Agan Hotel is literally within walking distance to the more significant tourist places, including the Blue Moque, Hagia Sofia [spelled Ayasofia here], the cisterns, the bazaar, the spice market. Be sure to go to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia EARLY, or you will have to contend with a massive number of attendees! You can also easily get to and from the airport using their very efficient metro system. Don't waste your money on cabs; Take the subway to Zeytinburnu station, then transfer to a shuttle headed to Kabatas and get off at the Gulhane station. The hotel is about 100 meters up Ebusuud, which is right where the shuttle drops you off. Walk up Ebusuud and take a right at the third street; Agan hotel registration desk is on the right, just opposite Ozler Restaurant. All that for about 2 Turkish Lira! I Also recommend the Agan Hotel's restaurant. Really great food at a reasonable price. The hotel's amenities are fairly basic, but considering the reasonable price for the hotel room, I has everything I needed.

I highly recommend you attend a Whirling Dervish ceremony at Dede Efendi House. It's just a hort walk down the hill in the opposite direction of the shuttle line. It is a religious ceremony, but a really great way to immerse yourself into the culture of Istanbul. It is filled with music, singing and, of course, the dervish. I have known of the dervish ceremony for a long time but this was my first time to experience it for myself. You will not be disappointed!

Agan Hospitality

From the moment we arrived til the moment we left, the staff tried to assist in any way possible to enjoy their hotel, their city and their country. The Topkapi Palace and Museum are 5 minutes walk and other sites also 5- 10 minute walk or 1 or 2 tram stops away. The tram is 3 minutes from the hotel steps. From the airport it was a 2 lira metro and a 3 lira tram ride ( combined $3 ) to the Gulhane stop. The AC worked fine, rooms quiet and serviced after you left for the day. The breakfast buffet was diverse and substantial and while sitting in the open front cafe, you can watch the Istanbul morning awaken. The people were friendly and the proximity to everything made it the perfect spot. It's even a short walk to the ferries and train station in the Sultanhamet. I think this area is Superior to Taksim area for sites, restaurants and all the main Cultural attractions.

Nightlife tip: Not Applicable

Warning! There are many fraud schemes in Istanbul towards unsuspecting tourists. No one offers something for nothing or without a purpose. If a stranger offers a free assistant tour etc., it's for a High priced carpet sales pitch by his Uncle. Even more caution should be taken if someone wants to take you to a bar for drinks....you will soon find girls at your table and a bill for $2000, with a manager saying you should have looked at a menu and the scammers who took you there are in on the deal. Since this is totally illegal, demand the Police, pay nothing, not a cent, sign nothing or you are agreeing to what they charged. The bar people get arrested, they pay a fine ( bribe ) and reopen to resume the same practice. More than likely, they will still try to negotiate but again, pay nothing. This has been reported all summer in 2011 and is not likely to stop. To have a happy trip, be on guard for scammers or alledged out of towners looking to show you a good time. Otherwise, Istanbul is very safe for families to go most any restaurant, museum or any popular place. This is a tremendous culural opportunity to experience a secular but definitively Islamic cultural experience.

Friendly and Very Reasonably Priced!

This was a great hotel - rooms are basic but there is AC and it does work! Excellent location, Blue Mosque, Archaelogical Museum, St Sophia's is five minute walk. Eminou ferry station is similar. Great staff, laid back but attentive. This was a brilliant hotel for what we paid on [...]

Watch for Dolphins under the Topaki palace cafe! Have a walk by the sea there, you might be lucky. Do the boat trips, they turned up for one of these as well. Avoid St Sophia/Blue Mosque area at the weekend, too busy
