Third & last trip to this establishment....

Would not recommend Sun, Jul 26, 2015
Hotel has been undergoing refurbishment for the last 2-3 years. We were allocated a new building B superior room after refusing to upgrade to a Deluxe on checkin (extra £16 per night)....they try to upgrade everyone on check-in so just beware! Superior room was big enough for 3 people - no bath though (just a shower room). A/C + WiFi all good.....over the past 3 years I've noticed the hotels caters for loud/rude Chinese tourists - if that's your thing then go for it :) Breakfast. Is okay although they charged my son £3 each morning for 2 slices of toast!? That seems to be the way it's going with the bigger tourist hotels in Chiangmai Mai and that's fine - there are better hotels in the Night Bizarre are for the price that include swimming pool/ gym etc....I won't be back to the Suriwongse....doubt it'll be finished in the next 5 years?

Excellent Value, Great Location

Would recommend Mon, Sep 9, 2013
Clean and spacious room in the new wing of the hotel. Extremely helpful and courteous staff. Excellent breakfast with European and Asian choices. Hotel very well located to night bazaar and food choices. A short 10 min walk to old town. Only minor gripe would be the strong chemical odour in lobby (not in rooms or restaurant), but I'm told this is to resolve mosquito issues. I would gladly stay again and recommend this hotel.

under renovation

Would recommend Mon, Dec 19, 2011
generally ok. Since it was under renovation, most of the public facilities are closed, making it less convenient.

Good staff

Would recommend Sun, Mar 6, 2011
An average hotel in the heart if the night bazaar area. Close to most everything. Good staff and tourist staff (we used the one next to the restaurant). Hotel is undergoing renovations which are needed. Would stay again.

Shopping hint

The night bazaar is right out the door to the hotel. Plenty of dining options right out the door as well.

The poor housekeeping shows

Would not recommend Fri, Feb 19, 2010
We stayed at the Suriwongse Hotel several times, the last time was four years ago. The primary reason we liked this hotel is the excellent location at the entrance to the night market. We were at this hotel in 1998 when it was being renovated. Obviously, there has been no followup of any kind since then. Four years ago, we did notice the hotel was becoming shabby but felt some renovations would have taken place during our four year absence. BOY, were we wrong. All of the upholstered furniture, in the lobby, in the dining room, in the rooms, were covered with all kinds of stains. Although the food at the breakfast buffet was very good and varied, all we could think of was the condition of the dining chairs and what may have been lurking behind the scenes. In addition, the two elevators were filthy and the elevator floors looked as if they had never been cleaned. We also had tremendous concerns about their safety deposit boxes. The boxes are located at the reception area and there is no private space available. If you are searching for an item in your box, you either have to remove everything and take it to your room, or look through the box in full view of whoever may be passing. When we applied for a box, we were given an ID form to fill out and keys. When we returned the following day and requested entry to the box, the clerk did not look up my signature but only took the key to open the box. I was shocked at this and complained to the supervisor who told me that her staff had all been instructed to check the ID card and get a signature each time the box is opened. I used the box about three times after that and the ID card was never checked. Just before checking out, I requested entry to my box by showing the key and again the ID card was not checked and my signature was not requested. I cleared out the box and no attempt was made to verify that I was the actual box holder. I also mentioned to the supervisor that if I dropped my key accidentally, anyone could have picked it up and brought it to the reception area and gained entry to the box without being questioned. Obviously, my suggestions were not taken seriously.
