under renovation
generally ok. Since it was under renovation, most of the public facilities are closed, making it less convenient.

The hotel is under renovation
The hotel is under renovation when we stayed here but the staff ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the guests and this is very impressive. Good variety of food at breakfast and the rooms are very good, with modern features and large bathroom. Excellent location right next to the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar and within walking distance of great restaurants. I cannot wait to see what the hotel will look like after the renovations. Had a great stay here and surely recommend this hotel.

Good staff
An average hotel in the heart if the night bazaar area. Close to most everything. Good staff and tourist staff (we used the one next to the restaurant). Hotel is undergoing renovations which are needed. Would stay again.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
The night bazaar is right out the door to the hotel. Plenty of dining options right out the door as well.

The poor housekeeping shows
We stayed at the Suriwongse Hotel several times, the last time was four years ago. The primary reason we liked this hotel is the excellent location at the entrance to the night market. We were at this hotel in 1998 when it was being renovated. Obviously, there has been no followup of any kind since then. Four years ago, we did notice the hotel was becoming shabby but felt some renovations would have taken place during our four year absence. BOY, were we wrong. All of the upholstered furniture, in the lobby, in the dining room, in the rooms, were covered with all kinds of stains. Although the food at the breakfast buffet was very good and varied, all we could think of was the condition of the dining chairs and what may have been lurking behind the scenes. In addition, the two elevators were filthy and the elevator floors looked as if they had never been cleaned. We also had tremendous concerns about their safety deposit boxes. The boxes are located at the reception area and there is no private space available. If you are searching for an item in your box, you either have to remove everything and take it to your room, or look through the box in full view of whoever may be passing. When we applied for a box, we were given an ID form to fill out and keys. When we returned the following day and requested entry to the box, the clerk did not look up my signature but only took the key to open the box. I was shocked at this and complained to the supervisor who told me that her staff had all been instructed to check the ID card and get a signature each time the box is opened. I used the box about three times after that and the ID card was never checked. Just before checking out, I requested entry to my box by showing the key and again the ID card was not checked and my signature was not requested. I cleared out the box and no attempt was made to verify that I was the actual box holder. I also mentioned to the supervisor that if I dropped my key accidentally, anyone could have picked it up and brought it to the reception area and gained entry to the box without being questioned. Obviously, my suggestions were not taken seriously.
