Beautiful hotel facility
The hotel building is new and gorgeous - great use of wood - Lanna style. Our room was very large and comfortable. The food service, especially breakfast, was not up to the standard of the Shangrila in Bangkok. Overall the staff was very friendly and helpful. They helped us feel comfortable visiting Chiang Mai.

Short drive from hotel
We visited the elephant camp and show, about 1 hour away by car and driver. It was really fun. We especially liked the elephant "painting" show - yes, "painting"! I am not kidding!! We took the elephant ride which ended at a very interesting Hill Tribe resettlement area, with lots of crafts for sale. Then we had a good lunch at the Tiger Farm.

The hotel is beautiful and situated
The hotel is beautiful and situated in a good location. However, the design is not condusive for convenience. E.g. the dining area is too far away from the service kitchen. It takes a long time for any orders to arrive, by which time the food and coffee gets cold. Also, there is no toilet nearby and you have a long walk to get to the main toilets which are situated too far away when you do eventually find it. Further, there is no lift to the basement carpark. You have to walk up 2 flights of stairs to get to and from the hotel lobby. This might be a cost saving exercise for the hotel but it results in a lot of inconvenience for the hotel guests.

We had a pleasant stay at the
We had a pleasant stay at the Horizon Club floor which gave us most convenience from check in, breakfast, tea to check out. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and my son enjoyed chatting with them. The hotel is quite close to the night market which took us around 10 minutes by foot. You can easily spot many massage places and restaurants nearby. Besides, there are few tuke tuke usually waited outside the hotel and it only took us 10 minutes to reach the old city where we visited the national musuem and some art galleries. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone who are traveling to Chiang Mai!

Shangri-La Hotel Chiang Mai
This is a great hotel, The facilities are fantastic and the service is better than we have encountered in other 5 star hotels. The room was very clean and well decorated. The grounds and swimming pool are very beautiful. The restaurants offer varitiety of Thai and other dishes. We will add the Shangri-La hotels on the top of the list of hotels we will visit in our future travels.

Staff were wonderful. Very friendly
Staff were wonderful. Very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Concierge service was excellent. Beautiful premises although lacked atmosphere and energy. Restaurant did not seem 5 star. Food was a bit cold, variety was a bit lacking and no atmosphere. Room was modern, clean and well apointed. Lovely view of the pool and gardens. Overall a nice stay.

The staff were extremely polite
The staff were extremely polite & cheerful and the location of the hotel was fantastic being so near to the Night Bazaar. The Horizon Club was so useful as we could relax and have a cup of tea or coffee at any time of the day. The room was well equipped and was done up twice a day. It was indeed a very good stay that we had in this hotel. You can't go wrong with this hotel.

Perfect Choice!
We stayed as a family of three for three nights before moving to another hotel for business meetings. We didn't want to leave. We booked a Horizon Club Deluxe room but we were upgraded to a Horizon Club Premier room!! The room was very spacious with a nice sitting area and King sized bed. Our daughter slept on the "day bed." The bathroom had a separate shower and bathtub and great amenities, including bath salts and plush towels. It's worth spending the extra to stay on the Horizon Club levels. They provide great service, free drinks and snacks at the lounge and a free Happy Hour from 5-7 where delicious snacks and desserts and drinks are provided. Horizon Club guests can also choose to eat breakfast at the lounge or downstairs in the main dining room. We tried both and preferred the privacy and service of the lounge, and some foods like waffles, eggs, etc are made fresh and to order! The pool and surrounding area are beautiful. Pool staff service was mixed. Some were fantastic and friendly but others were lazy and kind of rude. Ice water and fresh fruit and washcloths are provided to the pool guests. Pool food is good but a bit pricey (to be expected). No other food is allowed at the pool. Some kid toys are available as well. The weather was a bit cooler in late January when we stayed, and the pool was therefore quite cold. It didn't stop my daughter from having fun, though! Free wireless throughout the hotel was nice. The Night Bazaar is a 10-15 minute walk away. Banquet rooms are beautiful and food excellent. We did a company banquet there after we checked out.

Great place to stay
15 minutes from the airport, right on Chang Klan road, just moments from the night market Had a Horizon Club room and were very impressed with the service we received in the club room Much praise must go to George (Taemassin) who was welcoming and so very helpful It's hard to single one person out when all the staff were so friendly and helpful The pool was a lovely oasis away from the bustle of town The old town just a few minutes walk, or a short tuk tuk ride away. Only small niggles might be that the breakfast buffet items could have been a bit warmer and there needs some better extraction in the bathroom The freshly cooked items were quickly and well prepared I can't imagine wanting to stay in any other hotel in Chiang Mai
