Hotel in Bangkok’s business district near dining, nightlife, shopping
The Tawana Bangkok is located in the central business district and nightlife district of Silom. Within close walking distance of both Skytrain and MRT stations, the hotel's convenient location and comfortable quarters make it a solid choice. Rooms at the Tawana Bangkok run the gamut, some rooms sport polished wood walls and ceiling fans, while renovated deluxe rooms pump up the style factor with rich hues and lacquer details. The in-house restaurants, swimming pool, fitness center and spa round out the facilities.

The Spacious rooms at the Tawana Bangkok vary in style. Deluxe rooms retain a classic style in jewel tones and dark wood, and feature balconies overlooking the pool. Junior suites are done up with wood floors and walls, ceiling fans and rich textiles. Recently-renovated deluxe rooms feature a flashier look, decorated in saturated hues and lacquer artwork. Features include iPod dock and flat-screen TV. Suites take a more authentically Thai aesthetic, with elaborately carved wood detailing, tiled floors and clawfoot tub. All rooms feature in-room safe, high-speed wired Internet access and TV with satellite channels.

The Tawana is a solid 4 star hotel. The staff speaks better English than other hotels I've been to and they are also rather helpful in most all regards. The hotel is nicely located if you like the Pat Pong area of Bangkok. This hotel charges an
arm and a leg for laundry services. While in Chaing Mai, Thailand I could get over 2 pounds of laundry cleaned for 30 baht ($1), but this hotel will soak you 140 baht ($5) for one pair of pants. In many cases you could throw away your clothes and buy new stuff for less. Ridiculous. Also this hotel will charge additional fees for ANY female guest you bring to your room after 6pm of 940 baht ($37) for the visit even if your reservation was for two people (if your guest is not your registered roommate). So depending on your status and intent this could be a great hotel to stay at, but if you plan on bringing company back to your room you are better off elsewhere.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Short walk from hotel
The Smokehouse BBQ is an American owned steak house down the street from the Tawana. The food is awesome, but be prepared to pay American prices.
I stayed at this hotel two times during my trip to Asia. The first time I stayed there were stray hairs in the tub as well as on the towels I was expected to use. During the second stay, the bathroom was covered in flys and no matter how many I
killed there seemed to be more in the tub, on the walls, and on the towels. The ac also did not seem to work and the room was really warm, which sucked in the high humidty of Thailand. Although, the rooms looked really nice the looks were very deciving.
Nothing wrong with the place, but it's a 3 star hotel labelled 5 stars. Someone was labelled it wrong!
Toilet is old, shower curtain is dirty plastic, no fire sprinklers and windows are screwed shut (beware!), toiletries lacking, room decor very
dated, carpet tack strip coming through carpet (stabbed my toe on carpet tack strip). Again, it's just a mediocre 3 star hotel, in a reasonable location.
I have been visiting BKK 3-6 times a year since 1970 and have stayed in almost all the 5 and 4 star hotels there. I needed an extra night when my hotel was sold out. I have always wanted to try the TAWANA but somehow hadn't. I found it to be very
pleasant with spacious rooms, friendly staff and -for me- in an excellent location.
As a listed 5 star hotel, do understand that it is not the Oriental or Peninsula but for tourists who like the shopping, dining and night life in the Silom area, the hotel is a steal at the special ORBITZ rate and I can highly recommend it.
