Stylish but no Wifi in Room

The Sofitel Silom offers superior service and great views from their rooms. While free wifi is available in the lobby, the standard room only offers cabled access to the Internet for a fee. The swimming pool is small and often crowded but does offer a nice view. Linens are fantastic but the room I stayed in had a dated cathode ray tube television. Room service is excellent.

Great value and service

My third stay in the past five years: Sofitel Silom continues to impress. Located just next to the excellent Bangkok above-ground transit system and near all the sights, the hotel is a well-run and friendly respite from Bangkok's friendly chaos and climate. Rooms are well-appointed with exceptional bedding. Bathroom fixtures rival the best of five star properties and staff are friendly, professional and discreet. On-line discounts are significant and make the Sofitel an excellent value compared to many top-line Bangkok properties.

Time-saving tip: Long walk from hotel

Jump on the BTS early on a weekend morning to arrive at Chatuchak Market (the world's largest) early, before the crowds do.

You can expect the usual 4*star

You can expect the usual 4*star hotel but for the price you pay, there are loads of hotel that are better located. I did encounter a day where the housekeeping did not turn up despite turning the "Please make room" indicator on the entire morning. It can be annoying when you are drenched in sweat after a run on the treadmill and have to call housekeeping on the phone and waiting for 15 minutes for them to deliver the shampoo and the shower gel.
