Great Value

Big rooms, great location. Near the metro, park, shopping, several good restaurants across the street. Nice staff, very functional place. No luxury, but the price was great. Small gym, gorgeous pool. Not enough seating by the pool, but you're on top of the building.

Great hotel in great location

Good: Loved this hotel! Big, clean rooms. Nice fitness center and pool. Convenient location close to the skytrain. On a cleaner, quieter street. Cons: You have to pay for wifi ($10 for 10 hours).

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

Nice cheap massage place nearby called Touch spa. Also on the weekends go to JJ market on the Mo Chit stop, tons of cool things to buy.

Bangkok

It was nice. The staff was ok, but the property lacked nothing. However, it was pricey and I think a similar or exact experience was probably available at a cheaper hotel.

This is no 5 star hotel for sure

Staff are very nice, but this hotel is definitely not a 5 star one. Rooms are too old. Everything smells to humidity and decoration is from the 1960s.

The good & the bad

We were very pleased when we first arrived at the Chateau de Bangkok. We were greeted with fresh orange juice when we arrived. Our suite was absolutely stunning, not at all like anything you would expect for the price we paid through Orbitz. We wished that we could have stayed longer in Bangkok, if only to enjoy our suite a little longer. It's also very close to the night market (less than 5 minutes by tuk-tuk). The only bad experience we encountered was when I asked the front desk if they had a laundry service. We had been to a few other hotels in Thailand and the laundry service was always the same (between 30-100 baht/kilo). The concierge said that housekeeping would pick up my laundry and have it ready in a couple days. I had about 2kilos of clothes. When I got my clothes back the day before we were to leave they were brought with a bill of $2600 baht!! The bill says in fine print that it must be filled out by the customer (number of each type of garment, etc.) and signed at the bottom. I never saw this paper until I received the bill. Fortunately after talking with the manager for about 45 minutes we only had to pay the service charge of 180 baht. Afterwards we found out that there is actually a laundry room on the 3rd floor where you could do it yourself, or you could drop your clothes off at a number of the laundry services down the street.

Nightlife tip: Short drive from hotel

When you go to the night market the cabs and tuk-tuks will charge you much more to get back to your hotel than you paid to get there. We found out that inside the market it is not obligatory for cabs to use the meter. So we found it cheaper to start walking to the hotel and catch a cab or tuk-tuk outside the market.

pretty good value

1. The rooms were modern and comfortable, but not very stylish. The kitchen gave it the feel of a mid-range serviced residence. And although the bathtub was large, the bathroom had a used-apartment feel to it. 2. This place was hard to find, my friend who is Thai couldn't find it, and apparently cabbies can't either. 3. When we got there we were disappointed that roomservice was closed (10pm) so we had to order horrible little sandwiches from the overpriced minimart downstairs. Not exacly welcoming after a long flight. 4. The front desk people were cold and vacant-eyed. Any time I had a question, they sort of rolled their eyes and answered like a bored highschool student. The good points: Although I was disappointed upon check-in...the stay there was actually a pleasant one. The location was pretty easy to find once you get your bearings.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Dont eat at Paparrazis restaurant in the hotel...it's just baaaad. Instead, go across the street to the upscale pub/oyster bar. The prices are similar, but the oyster bar actually has character and theres a great massage place next door too.
