The Grand Hotel, Taipei

Positives: the room was clean; the beds were very comfortable. The room met my expectations. The hotel food is overpriced as expected but well-prepared and tasty. Check-in: My reservation was strangely twisted with only my last name legible. It took about an hour for the desk staff to untangle the reservation. Airport bus: I expected a hotel shuttle direct to the airport. The airport bus is a city bus. The bus arrived 10 minutes late. The city bus took one hour and twenty minutes to get to the airport. These problems marred an otherwise fine trip to Taipei.

Terrible value for money

They had just a full-sized bed versus the King-sized bed. The hotel itself is ancient, and looked every bit its 40 years. It's got terribe location vs. just about any other option in Taipei. You had to take a shuttle that only left once every 15 minutes just to get to the nearest MRT station. I saw quite decent and much larger city-view rooms. I would never come back to this hotel again.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

You are literally steps away from Shih-Lin night market, which is the largest tourist night market in Taipei. It is a terrific place to grab something to eat any time of day, and the quality is first-rate.
