Smelly

Would not recommend Thu, May 1, 2014
This hotel doesn't smell welcome..... After exiting from the elevator, some kind of odor is in the hall way. I had a room assigned in 22nd floor, the room smelled strong mildew. I was transferred to another room in 21st floor, the room smell better, but still have the same odor of the hall way. The odor made my stay very uncomfortable.

Attractions

Very close to the beautiful public park around Botanical Garden and National Science Museum.

Excellent Stay

Would recommend Sun, Jan 6, 2013
The room was fantastic, very spacious. The only room for improvement was the the TV volume didn't seem to work very well and the WiFI signal was a bit weak in my specific room.

Splendor Review

Would recommend Sun, Oct 2, 2011
The outside of the hotel is undergoing a major renovation, so it's not much to look at from the outside. However, the room that I was placed in was renovated and the bathroom was especially nice, with a tub and separate walk-in shower and walk-in toilet. The beds were hard, but rather typical for a more traditional Taiwanese hotel. There was no wi-fi available in the room but there was a high speed Internet cable that worked just fine. There is an underground walkway from the hotel that will get you across the street to the SOGO department store. One thing to note about the department store is that although it is very large, it's not one of those stores that has a massive food court. I spotted a coffee stand in the basement but I think that was it. The breakfast at the Splendor has a lot of variety. There is also a McDonald's at the corner of the block. Other than that, not a whole lot of food choices immediately close to the hotel that are obvious to the foreign business traveler. A colleague of mine stayed at Hotel One which is a few minutes' walking distance from the Splendor (you can cut across a park). It's far more modern looking with a nice bar on a high floor with a pleasant view of the city. It clearly caters more to the Western traveler rather than the Taiwanese/Asian traveler. There is a wonderful noodle and pearl tea restaurant located right next to Hotel One with a bilingual menu. However, the Splendor generally costs less per night and is adequate for the business traveler. I got a complimentary box of Taiwanese pineapple cakes when I checked out.

Splendor face lift

Would not recommend Wed, Jul 13, 2011
As with the Kaoshuing Splendor location registration is on an upper floor. Not bad, just odd. Two elevators to finally get to your room from entrance to building. The property is being remodeled on the exterior. The room I was given for two nights faced a wall of adjacent building. Overall the room appointments were kind of aged. There are nicer properties in this city.
