Room smaller than my bathroom in a Red Light District miles from the city center...

This hotel is not a four star hotel, unless my college dormitory also qualified... The room was the size of the twin bed plus a one foot wide walkway to get in it... The hotel is fifteen minutes from town by tram, plus you have to wait seven to ten minutes for that. The neighborhood is a red light district full of Thai nightclubs, adult video supermarkets, and an assortment of drunk and drugged out beggars on the streetcorners. I wold not recommend it to a teenage backpacker, let alone call it a four star hotel. Stay Away!

Decent price/location

This was a decent, clean hotel and in such an expensive city, the price wasn't bad either. The s-bahn stop is close and made it very easy to reach the downtown area within 5 minutes. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well.

The hotel staff recommended a traditional Swiss/German restaurant named Zeughaus Keller. It was definitely worth going to for the amosphere and the tasty food. It is located in the downtown area and a reservation is recommended as the wait lines to get a table can get very long!

mediocre at best

showerhead was broken; had to hold by hand. worse: day before checkout, hotel charged CHF350 to my debit card *in case* i had any charges beyond the (prepaid) room! i eventually got the money back a week after returning home, but i could have used that during my vacation! very displeased!

Merkur

Nice hotel in a remote area of Zurich. Faily good distance by metro to get to downtown area and train station. No great restraunts near hotel with the exception of the one in the hotel. Parking was an extra $19 which wasn't expected, so sort of annoying. There are only eight spots in front of the hotel, so get there early for them. Very friendly staff.

Mercure Stoller Zurich

Immaculate rooms/facilities, no air-conditioning so we left the balcony door open and it was OK, great location on the train/bus system, forget driving public transport frequent and affordable (8 francs for all day pass), bakery around the corner for breakfast, Italian across the street, 8 min by light-rail to city center (#2 train), 5 min to main trainstation (#3 train). Trains to almost everywhere from main train station. 45 min to Luzern, 4 hours to Munich. Everything a bit pricey, but that's Europe in general and Zurich always.

If you don't have too much luggage, figure out the lightrail from the airport to downtown. Taxi was $80, I bet the train would have been about 10 francs.

great feel for Zurich West

I would give the stay a rating of 4.5 stars- we were looking to tour the country in a semi-economical way, and the Stoller Hotel was perfect. The reception was polite (others had complained of cold, distant behavior) and our room was clean, chic and most importantly, quiet (we had a corner room on the 1st floor.) We walked around Zurich West for a bit, then sat a a cafe and had coffee. We had an early dinner at the hotel as well, and the lemon grass soup was the best soup I have had- I can't speak highly enough of the taste! There was a bathroom in the room, which apparently isn't always the case, and we woke early, showered and left the next morning. The bus stop is a half-block from the hotel, but we rented a car and parking is 25SF per day. I would absolutely stay here again.
