Decent place to stay on a limited budget
I just needed a place to stay on my last night after a business trip in another city, flying out of Zurich. It's a bit of a walk from the main train station, but pleasant enough as I was glad to have an excuse to see the surrounding neighborhoods... definitely walkable from the downtown area. The hotel itself was a nice old building and kept up well enough. I opted for the shared bathroom, which if you're OK with is fine and puts you in the "very affordable" range. No major complaints about my stay, though at the time they didn't offer internet connection in the room (only in the lobby), and some of the TV channels didn't work very well. Other than that the service was fine and I was happy with my stay. I'd say this is a good option for the no/low-frills traveller.

Shopping tip:
Long walk from hotel
Many people probably already realize this, but all the shops in downtown completely shut down on Sundays and in the evenings. I was surprised to see how little nightlife there was on the west side of the river - though I did come across one or two bars where people were congregating. So definitely plan ahead, particularly if you know someone in town who can advise where to go to find the scene.

ok, let me repeat this - there is a shared shower on the floor, and a shared bathroom. This should really sink in before you make a reservation. It is like a throwback to the time when you were 22 yo. All in all, things are good, though. The shower room is nicely appointed, with a skylight window opening toward a roof garden. People at the reception are warm and helpful. Wireless internet is smooth, if not lightning fast. Breakfasts are simple, but satisfying, and the server is doing her job well. Location is also nice - the neighborhood is pleasant (more than can be said about many areas in Zurich), 3 min walk to a tram stop, and a short ride (or walk) to the main station, which is the heart of the city. It may not necessarily be the best bargain in the cut-rate segment, though. I heard about other places offering better deals, so shop around. Anyhow, St Georges was a good experience for me.

Simple hotel, but nice. Good location.
Nice and simple hotel. 15 walk to the main train station. Good location. Simple, but adequate breakfast included. Rooms are small with two single beds. No amenities. VERY HELPFUL STAFF!.

Would definitely stay here again!
I stayed here for 2 weeks on a work trip and would absolutely stay here again. It was by far the cheapest hotel, but definitely did not fall short in standards. I would rate this hotel at least 3 stars - the staff was friendly, there is a free and delcious breakfast everyday, and while the bathrooms are shared, I never had a problem getting in or having to wait and it was right down the hall. I had my own double room all to myself and it had it's own balcony. It looked down on to the street but was great and was very spacious. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. The location is the not the best - ie. right in the shopping area or near the train station, but i really liked it because it was in a quiet neighborhood but was near enough to the tram lines to get around easily and was walking distance to the main shopping district - about 20 minutes.

Adequate but basic
The hotel is within walking distance of the center of the city. The room was small and had no telephone, which we needed. However, one of the staff was nice enough to lend us her cell phone during our stay at the hotel. The staff in general was friendly and very helpful. An exception was one of the staff, a woman, who became very upset and lectured my wife when she accidentally spilled some orange juice on the morning newspaper. A major problem was the lack of parking. You can purchase a parking permit from the hotel on a daily basis, which allows you to park in any "blue zone" around the hotel. But it's practically impossible to find an empty spot. Parking is available in a nearby parkinghouse, but it is prohibetively expensive. The hotel has no restaurant, but a number of very good ones are nearby.

Veteran traveler
Review of St. Georges Zurich
Very nice hotel. Quiet and safe location. Staff was helpful, friendly, and courteous. The room was very clean, but small - typical for a European hotel. Breakfast was acceptable, but unimaginative. However, the breakfast beat paying for an expensive breakfast in Zurich. This veteran traveler felt that this hotel was a superb value for the money. Zurich is very expensive!
