Hotel Krone-Limmatquai

Hotel Krone was located in the heart of downtown Zurich. It was simple, but for one night it was perfect. Very close to the Bahnhof station (within walking distance) it was easy to find. Staff was friendly, and conditions were similar to a hostel, but it worked!

The location is probably the best selling point for this hotel. It is on the river and a block from the Old Town area. There is no service between 10:30pm - 7 am in this hotel. bathrooms and showers are in the hallway. The internet connection is spotty.

Hotel Krone-Limmatquai is very close to the Zurich Train Station. Easy walking distance to Great Shops and restaurants. I found the room for 2 to be a bit small. Not too much space for hanging clothes and keeping luggage. If you are in Zurich for a Very short stay like 1 night or so, then its ok to stay here. I also felt that the room could have been kept a little cleaner.

I stayed at this hotel in Zurich for two nights and thought it was going to be a great. Well during the two days we were in Zurich, I started noticing bumps all along my left arm. At first I thought it was a rash from perhaps the detergent used on the bed linens but when I found beetle like bugs amongst my sheets, I realized that my bumps were bites from BED BUGS!! I was absolutely eaten alive...my whole left arm/hand got incredibly swollen and I probably had close to 100 red welts on just the one arm. One of my fellow travelers also became covered in red welts after our stay at this hotel. To make things worse...their infestation was so bad that bugs ended up in my luggage and were a constant stress for the rest of the trip. While the overall price and location were good for this hotel I would be very cautious about staying here as you might have bug bite souveniers to take with you when you leave.

The location was very convenient to the train station and attractions along the river. However, there is no secure place to leave the baggage before check-in or after check-out, and they are quite rigid about the check-in time being no earlier than noon or even 1 PM. They also close at 10:30 PM and there is no night service so that can be quite inconvenient. The rooms do not have direct dial phone systems. No one can phone a room from outside the hotel after 10:30 PM. The breakfast is quite expensive, but there are other places to eat nearby. The biggest inconvenience is that all bathrooms and showers are shared, though for this price in most other countries, one could have a private bath. The price is high for a shared bath arrangement and no other amenities. There are also no safe deposit boxes. Maintenance is only responsive to complaints, not proactive.

The Krone-Limmatquai hotel is located right on the river, 5 min walk from the Zurich HB (Main Train Station). We stayed in a room on a 4th floor, overlooking the river. Even though it said that the room did not have a bathroom, we got our own private bathroom with a shower, so we did not have to share one on the floor with other guests. But since it is right on a city street, it is quite noisy (unless you would want to close the window and sit in a stuffy room - there is no air conditioner). I guess if we did not get that particular room, my satisfaction with the hotel would be much less. We needed a room to stay just for one night, before we would head for the mountains, and it was a convenient choice. If I had to stay there longer than a night, I would, most likely, select another hotel.

Best part about the hotel is the location - near the action.

The Hotel Krone-Limmatquai is a small hotel looking over the river, most rooms face the alleys though. It has a men's and women's toilet on each floor but only 2 showers for the whole hotel. The room is a decent size with sink in the room and was fairly clean but you could hear the tram run during the night. You would think this hotel was a hostel with the noise that went on in the hallways at 2:00am. The stairs are very loud as well. I can't say that this hotel was worth the money or that I'd stay here again. My recommendation would be to spend the extra $20 and get a room with a shower in it.

It is in a great location and the price was affordable. It was clean and the staff was friendly. Would stay there again.
