Overview

Guests feel regal here, which is no wonder, as the ancient villa is in fact a former Prussian princes residence. Situated high above the Bay of Lugano and surrounded by a cultivated park scenery, this exceptional boutique hotel offers first-class suites and rooms. The historical main building - the Villa - is, together with the nearby Residence (of more recent construction), one of the most refined luxury hotel establishments in Lugano. The tastefully arranged spacious rooms, the terraces with breathtaking views, two heated outdoor pools, tennis courts and a wide range of sports facilities leave nothing to be desired. Neither does the exquisite Mediterranean cuisine of Dario Ranza, served in the light-flooded restaurants. Jewel of the hotel is KISO: a heavenly, exclusive Spa offering unadulterated luxury, privacy and exclusive treatments. A truly royal feeling! Looking forward to welcoming you at our hotel. We remind you, that reservations for the gourmet restaurant Principe Leopoldo or treatments at the KISO Spa are mandatory and should be arranged prior to arrival. Please don't hesitate to contact us. Best regards

Dining

The Bar Principe
The Bar Principe is always very crowded in the evening, especially on Fri and Sat. The pianist entertains a select clientle (reservations are a must!) with evergreen music or jazz, sometimes accompanied by wonderful singers. Once a month, a wine-tasting evening is organized offering the opportunity to enjoy some of the best labels of wines or champagnes. There's also a vast selection of malt whisky and a cigar menu. Relaxing in comfortable armchairs in the cosy atmosphere of the Bar, our guests can listen to music until 1.00 a.m.
The Principe Leopoldo Restaurant
We should not forget to mention our restaurant's astounding cuisine that thanks to the great expertise of Chef Dario Ranza has received numerous awards. The restaurant Principe Leopoldo is renowned for its quality and elegance and has received excellent mentions in several international guides like Les Grandes Tables, Gault Millau and Veronelli. Three quiet dining areas, well-distanced tables, marble and flower upholstery, Louis XVI chairs, linen tablecloths and an impeccable service are the ingredients for dining in style. When the weather is pleasant, guests can enjoy the Gazebo on the large terrace in front of a breathtaking view. Chef Ranza's cuisine joins together the French experience with the genuine Italian tradition. The dishes are at once tasty but delicate; the menu is contrived according to the season, featuring both meat and fish, flavours from the vegetable garden and aromatic herbs. Do not miss the delicious deserts.
Cafe Leopoldo Restaurant
Open during the Summer time. A secret corner of the Villa Principe Leopoldo: an oasis where peace and quiet reign among the scents and sounds of nature. This informal ambience is suited to quicker meals; here, it's possible to get a taste of simple but genuine tastes.

A bit to poshy

Would recommend Thu, Oct 15, 2015
Nice hotel, located up the hill above Lugano. All too poshy, but nice and smiling staff. A bit on the expensive side, but worth the luxury you get.

Luxury but not feeling home...

Would recommend Thu, Nov 27, 2014
Location: High above Lake Lugano, need a car to get there. Beware: the hotel consists of the Villa itself (with view on the lake) and the Residence (with no view at all). Rooms: We stayed at a renovated room in the Residence and found it extremely big and comfortable. The bathroom facilities are ok, but the shower could be better. No tea/coffee in-room facilities, but free water is provided. Breakfast: pretty good selection of cold cuts, cheese, fruits and cereals. Hot selections limited to eggs and ham. Coffee offered and served. Restaurant: expensive and dress-coded, we did not go there. Spa: we did not make it there as reservations are required. Gym: reasonably equipped, water and towels provided. Sauna was closed for renovation. Staff: very "posh", like a "royalty butler". But they do their job. Overall, good impression and recommended.
