Basic hotel handy to train station, tourism office, and attractions
Location is the primary selling point of this older no-frills hotel on a busy street two blocks from Cornavin train station. The helpful Geneva tourism information office is around the corner. Guests can reach Lake Geneva and most top tourist attractions within a 10- to 15-minute walk. Budget-conscious travelers will appreciate the free continental breakfast.

Disappointing, but...
Well, it's way overpriced for the quality. The room was tiny and way old, pretty decrepit. The lady up front was not very friendly and wanted me to speak only English, although I came primarily to Geneva to keep up with my French, which is certainly adequate. Breakfast was sub-par if you compare it to a standard Holiday Inn continental breakfast. Cigarette holes in the comforter on the bed, "minibar" not very good. But, the location was great, just a couple of blocks from the train station and within walking distance of the cathedral and shopping district, etc. I'd do it again, just because I can't afford better!

Great Location
This is a nice hotel in a great location. close to the train station and easy to get to by car. Although car parking can be a problem. Between 6 at night and 11 in the morning you can park free with hotel pass, but otherwise it is expensive (parking garage is almost next door ($25 per day). Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast okay.

The flea market is on Saturday and just down the street along the river from the hotel. The market has about everything for sell and then also has a flower, fruit and vegetable market.

Meets basic needs
The location was optimum as it is two blocks from the rail station and 5 blocks from the rental car company (Hertz). It is only 4-5 blocks from the lake and there are many restaurants nearby. The room (their largest) was nice and had a comfortable reading chair near the window. There is no air conditioner and it was in the high 80s so we opened the windows which lets in all the evening noise from the street below. The beds were okay and rooms clean. The woman at the front desk was rude and unhelpful. We also argued at check-out over the bill. I insisted that I had paid online and they said I had not. I could have proved it had I been able to use the internet, but they wanted to charge me 9 Euros for that privilege (note while wifi is available it is expensive). Decent breakfast.

Business Man
Central location, noisy, needs renovatio
Staff was very friendly, breakfast was OK. The hotel is very close to the main station and to the old town. Furniture, floors and walls of rooms and halls seem old and basic. I would suggest renovation and fresh paint. Windows should be more noise protective. Then it would be an excellent place in Geneva.

Hit the spot
Great location for getting anywhere, as it is near the main train/tram/bus station (Gare Cornivan). Lots of shopping and dining right out the door too. As with many hotels, though, the one thing I really like is a hearty breakfast. Cheese and croissants isn't enough - gimme some eggs and bacon!

Juste ce qu'il faut
Comme consultant, je connais maintenant bientôt tous les hôtels autour de la Gare Cornavin. L'hôtel Moderne porte mal son nom car il est plutôt ancien et défraîchi. En résumé, son principal (seul?) atout est qu'il est à deux pas de la Gare. Que dire de plus... je ne vois rien. Olivier
