Not quite what one might expect
I booked the hotel due to its close proximity to an early morning appointment the following day. Getting there was somewhat tricky as the Savoy lies in what seems to be a pedestrian zone and sat navs struggled with taking us there. Once arrived, we learned that booking through this site did not include breakfast so an additional CHF 25 (USD ~27) per person had to be paid, another CHF 18.50 for overnight parking. Our room was on the fourth floor (fifth American) and the lift happened to not function properly, a frequent occurrence as the receptionist kindly informed us. So, up all the stairs with the luggage (any help from hotel staff was never offered). After we'd finally made our way up, we were disappointed to find the room looking like a halfway finished page in the catalog of a famous Swedish furniture empire. The room itself, as well as the bath, were very generous in size but nearly empty as far as furnishings. The few things present in the room appeared of low quality. Funny note on quality, the hotel safe actually shows the lock code after locking for a while, somewhat defeating its own purpose - we had to use it anyway. Apart from a few rowdy tourists in the streets below, the night was acceptably quiet, save for a few banged doors to staff rooms. Good restaurants for dinner can be found nearby. The morning brought another disappointment - breakfast. While the one single waitress was very friendly, the buffet, for the price, was rubbish. I've stayed at hostels in German (Generator in Hamburg, for example) with a better selection, much lower price and coffee worthy of its name. Two very expensive slices of bread with Nutella and some water later, we left, I headed for my appointment. One good thing, the appointment dragged on longer than originally expected and late checkout wasn't a problem at all, after calling beforehand. We checked out around noon, having paid 389.39 USD for the room, CHF 50 for breakfast, CHF 18.50 for parking and almost the CHF 15 for Wifi, came to our senses, however. Frankly, at those prices, I'm stunned that the Savoy in Bern is still operating, let alone profitably. As far as service, remember the rubbish safe we used after all? Turns out we forgot to empty it before departure... not the first time we did that, probably not the last, unfortunately. However, literally all other hotels and rental properties happily mailed us the contents. The Savoy did too, along with a bill for CHF 9 for shipping and handling. CHF 9 they will never see, mostly because we never saw (totalled and converted) $462.69 of service for the one single night we'd spent there in a standard room with two single size beds. If the $500 per night area is within your budget, I'd strongly recommend Hotel Schweizerhof Bern or the Bellevue Palace, unless you're keen on overpaying for a disappointment in which case the Savoy is perfect. (No affiliation with the very lavish and extravagant Savoy Baur en Ville in Zurich!)

Nothing Special but Suitable
Very close to train station. Room room was average size and non-descript. Nice breakfast in the AM. Mix of people moving past the hotel to/from the train station.

Even though this is on a major street it was very quiet and dark for sleeping. The location is absolutely PERFECT for train travel.

Great location
Staff very helpful. Location very easy to find and walkable to and from train station. Rooms were spacious and clean. Bathrooms exceptionally well-cared for. We were there to see Berne and travel to Alps by train. Only 1 1/2 hour train ride through Interlaken to Grindelwald. Hotel breakfast was very good. Liked everything about the hotel except the mattresses were a bit hard.
